Instrument Cluster Restarting While Driving

Hey guys, I'm putting this in general because it doesn't seem like the electronics forum gets much traffic. I will be driving and my instrument cluster will randomly restart. The gauges do the sweep test and all the lights turn on like I just started the car, he engine never loses power though. Is this common? Is there a known cause/fix?

Do you have anything plugged into the OBD2 port? The reset is common while dataloging with HPT.

Nope, nothing plugged in

I'm gonna have to guess either a bad ground (check the battery tray.. it's notorious for the battery leaking and dripping down, corroding the battery tray connection) or a bad ignition switch.

It's hard to diagnose intermittent problems like this over the internet

I agree on a ground issue.

That's what happened to my 03 coupe. The ground on the engine came loose shortly after I bought it, just enough to @!#$ with it randomly, but never enough to kill the car or similar. Tightened up all the grounds, and no more issues.
