^^ I couldn't agree more! I still think it's one of the best engine designs out there. The 2.3 has some minor shortcomings, and the 2.4 maybe a little more, but between the two, there is enough technology and factory parts to easily make a high powered AND reliable engine. I'm thinking of doing the 2.3 oil pump conversion and ditching the balance shafts. One thing that never sat right with me is the oil pressure drop off at extreme rpms. Still, If I had kept on top of it, like I have in years past, I'd still be running the original motor. Much rather have my LD9 than a Honda B-series, lol.

I just did that 2.3L oil system shiznit on the block in the basement. It is waiting to go to the machine shop to have the rotating assembly balanced.
But I believe the right mix between 2.3 and 2.4 is a very strong combo.
Get rid of the balance shafts.

D@mn Jarrett, I must admit that when I first heard about this i didn't want to beleave it. Just when I'm finally gettin to where we can be really compedative this happens. Arrgh

Letr's see....
127k, previous owner chaged oil every 30k, stupid kid showing off his rev limiter. need i say more?
Yeah, mine was the #3....set me back $1800. When i bought the car with 120k i thought it was odd it needed 2 qts plus a qt every 700-1000 or so miles....but i was stupid. My RPMs never get over 4.5k now, even when I'm showing off and I use Mobil 1 every 2k. Car now has 143k (motor from '01 GA has 46k)

Damn. That is about what I spent on the entire motor build with cams, ported head and valve job, 2.3L oil system, JE pistons, Eagle rods, balance entire rotating assembly, bearings, gaskets, etc....
Of course I did a lot of work myself.

yea, see i know this much----------> || about rebuilding a motor and the shop wuoted me $3000 and said it would be cheaper to get a junkyard motor. They found one from a '01 GA in Minnesota with 30k on it so that's what I wound up with and I don't have any complaints.

wasn't saying you were an idiot, I was just saying in general...
I understand not everyone knows how to build a motor. I wasn't attacking you.
