length of pipe is also an issue. That's why I tend to be biased towards WAIs, and why I will probably buy one soon.

Actually, you are assuming incorrectly. Volume has nothing to do with shape. Just because a tube is a clean looking shape doesn't mean a bend with a wider measurement can't flow the same amount of volume.
If you want to talk about issues like that, take the RK intake. The part of the tubing inside the filter is actually shaped like a D. THAT will reduce flow.
Well my AEM CAI is on the way. I have never had an aftermarket intake. My mods are P+P exhaust manifold, 2.25" plumbing, Highflow Magnaflow CAT, Moroso Resinator, Magnaflow Street Muffler. When i get it installed and start ripping up the streets in hte spring I will let you know how it is.

Personally I love my AEM. Yea it was a B*^%H to install (removing the bumper would have made it a lot easier) but none the less I love it. and for those afraid of the water. We have some snow up here in northern NY and it does just fine even when packed with snow. lol

the difference would be like, minimal, maybe 5 hp at best. but probably more like 2-3 hp, you wouldnt be able to feel it, your probably imagining things.

Actually volume does have something to do with shape... simple geometry..
I believe two times in this post the idea behind having snow pack around the air filter has been brought up, everyone saying even with all the snow they have had no problems. Hmmm let's see here, Water - Snow... close but not the same, i dont understand why you would even post saying its ok in snow... thats just retard.... and compares in no way to snow. If you dont believe me do a little experiment...... take a cotton pillow case, we'll pretend its your filter, stick your head in it, and bury you head in the snow..... wow nothing happened, you didn't drown did you? Ok so now take your head in that same pillow case and plant your head in a bucket full of water.........o wow you might drown... hopefully you did..... so the result of this little test.... all these snow ideas dont me dickl. Melting snow? maybe, slushy @!#$, maybe.... water thats another story..... point being its a retarded comparison, just like this whole thread.

Please don't patronize me about geometry... I went to school for astrophysics... lol
Are you actually trying to say that an elbow cannot be designed to hold the same amount of volume as a tube? How you CALCULATE volume depends on the shape. But just because a shape is not as 'clean' looking as another does not mean it holds less automatically. That's what he was trying to say was the case.
^^^ exactly the reason behind the "cobra head" style elbows

im thinking about making my own cai. i want to use my rk elbow and pipe straight over through where the battery used to be and straight down that hole. weld a brace to bolt to the inner fender or something. it will eliminate one of the 90's in my wai and get colder air. that aem has alot of bends and would probably look ridiculous w/o a battery. a pipe bent with no reason. i would have one 90 and an elbow
