The pumps from all the pre-95 2.3s... the LO, the HO, AND THE SOHC are the same and will work.

But with all the work involved to do the swap, I would suggest using a new pump so you know your using non-worn parts.

USE A NEW PUMP, you need oil, oil is very important, so dont cheap out, if you are going to do this swap, make sure it is done right, and you have a new pump.

www.summitracing.com is the cheapest. $104...unless someone has found it for less than that.

  1. More consistent oil pressure throughout the rpm range.

  2. Pressure does not drop off after 5k rpm as it does with the balance shafts

  3. Lightens the engine by a considerable amount

  4. Frees up about 10-15 HP

There may be more.

Aw man the balance shafts are like 25 pounds I swear. The 2.3L oil pump is maybe 2 pounds then with the windage tray, brace and pickup, maybe 3 pounds. A huge weight difference...less weight for the crank to turn via a chain. a lightweight gear driven pump is much, much better.

Took me about 2-3 hours to drill all the holes. another hour to plug the originals and sleeve the feed hole. Another hour to modify the windage tray and pickup brace.

The machine shop has the block now and they are making sure the sleeve is not going to leak. I believe they said they are going to remove the sleeve because they did not like that idea. They are going to thread where the sleeve inserted into the oil gallery, and o-ring the other side where it is in the block. Then slap a bunch of sealant on both ends. He said that will provide a much more pressure-tight seal than just a sleeve with sealant on it. I agreed, so they are going to do that. I can't imagine that taking them more than an hour and a half at the very most. Should not even take that long.

So total...about 6 hours.

But you had to remove the engine.
Bleh, so much for that idea.

oh yeah...no way you can do this with the engine in. Too much modifications...and whenever you drill holes in the block it should be thoroughly cleaned. So no chance of doing it in the car.

This is on my spare engine that will become the main engine this spring.

Buying direct is always more than someone who buys in bulk.
