Ecotec Lash Adjusters/Lifters - New OEM Version
Monday, October 12, 2015 4:32 PM
Hey Guys,

With my current build, the lash adjusters/lifters may become problematic due to the high RPM and heavy lift cams of the built head. I figured its best to replace these, however machining is required to use aftermarket lash adjusters/lifters and are a pain to adjust.

When looking at the stock OEM Ecotec lash adjuster/lifter, part number GM 12572638, I realized that in 2008 a new version was made (structurally the same, made better internally). This new part number is GM 24100005. I will use these instead of the stock ones.

FYI for anyone else not wanting to spend the time and money to machine the head to accept aftermarket lifters (ex. Jessel).

Another quick FYI:

When we buy an upgraded valvetrain (springs, retainers) certain accessories may be overlooked by most novices such as myself. A majority of us don't change the followers/rocker arms, lash adjusters/lifters, valve guides, spring seat locators, valve stem seals etc. Some obviously not required depending on the build and power produced. However, I found some information on the valve guides as I may replace the cast iron stock OEM's with the Supertech. See below:

Stock OEM Ecotec Valve Guides, Part No. GM: 90537248, Specs:
I.D = 0.2365 inches or 6MM
O.D = 0.395 inches or 10.04MM

Supertech Mangnese/Bronze OEM Ecotec Valve Guides, Part No. GDE-EC60-SM, Specs:
I.D = 6MM
O.D = 10.04MM

These will swap out for the stock ones.

as for aftermarket lash adjusters. I do not recommend them. I knew someone with some. The machining to get them to fit right too forever. Motor was much louder and had a knock register on HPT. When they finally went back to stock lash adjusters noise was gone and so was the knock.

I do know someone made some high dollar ones that were adjustable (no machining required), they are hard to come by.

That is interesting and not what I am looking for.

Would like to see those adjustable ones! Upgrading to this new version, hopefully will let get me by in the high RPM range (PJ busted one at 8000 RPM). I will not make power that high so even at 7500 RPM we should be good to go?

Don't change he valve guides. To use supertechs bronze guides you must machine the head and you better have go machinist because those valve guides have to be dead straight. They are a nightmare. Most people buy them end up selling them once they find out the work involved for no real gain.

Thanks Rob! If I end up needing those guides down the road, its an option. I'll leave whatever is in the built head I have as I am sure Patriot Performance used new stock cast iron guides.

I think the newer stock will be fine to your goal.

I think so too. Hopefully, I don't have to find out! Found a great deal for a set of 16 shipped for 87 bucks (dealer wants a crap load for each). It is recommended I have the clearances checked regardless even if it is a GM product made for the ecotec head. I need to let my machine shop know that these are not the "stock" lifters. Agree or have them pop em in?

I contacted CED - there seems to be a mix up on what is the revised lifter. After some back and forth emails, CED replaced the picture of the lifter for another one (the one they believe is the updated lifter - I am not convinced). Can anyone help me with this.

What I believe is the 2002 - 2007 ecotec lifter: GM 12572638

What I believe to be the 2008 LNF lifter and therefore "new" revised version: GM 24100005 (i cannot find this part number at www.gmpartsdirect.com!)

Just came across these. They are stronger than the LNF lifters but I am not sure about the height (these are slightly taller). Will they work?

I thought someone was running those lifters in a jbody. The main issue with solid lifters is you have to machine each one and set the lash. Over time they will get noisy. Not good for a daily driver.

You are talking about the ones I just posted a link on Ebay for correct?

The Bates Engineering solid lifters also require the same machining you mentioned. So, I can stick with the LNF "revised lifters" and be fine? No machining required? Is it possible to use the Bates rockers and the LNF solid lifters combo?

I do not recommend solid lifters. They are noisy, so noisy it can cause false knock.
