Sweet...can you post as much detailed info as possible after you install and tune...I'm curious about what tuning changes you make and what advance/retard you settle on, as well as what it does to performance.

Okay, I got a lot of bolt ons, Cams, and Tuned. How much would the cam gears help me? Power wise? I thought HPT could tune the car's timing? I can't remember now. If I install the gears, get re-tuned, how much power is it going to give me? Just want to know if the mod is really worth it right now (2.4L intake mani is next)

Cam timing and ignition timing are two completely different things. And cam timing is not something to be screwing with unless you have a very very good understanding of how it works. It depends on what cam you are running. Someone (Wenzel maybe?) dynoed gains with the stock cams by changing the advance/retard of the intake/exhaust cams, but probably not enough to justify the cost. If you are running cams that are meant to be set to a certain mechanical advance/retard point, then these will be necessary. But in all honesty, its not something the average tuner should even be worrying about.

This is kinda true for N/A builds, but for turbo builds, adj cam gears can noticably affect boost threshold/spool time, and top end power, espcially if your working with an oversized or undersized turbo, respectively.

Just take care of the bolts, which are very very weak... even when torqued correctly

I am in the market for a built ecotec head (LSJ Or L61 - looks more like L61 at this point), new supertech valvetrain, stage 3 cams, +1mm ferrea valves. I am all motor, still not sure if I need ADJ cam gears to get more power in the top end or overall. Buy a set? or wait till I got boost?

If I recall correctly GM recommended a specific intake advance, and exhaust retard like they did for the quad 4...in one of the ecotec build books.

In the book I have, didn't find that information... I have a set of GM Racing gears. I hope the tuner or the shop for that matter knows how to play around with the cam timing, I'd hate to put them in and do nothing with them - they are going in regardless since I have them! Anyone have any info on how they set up their adjustable cam gears?

You mean adjustable cam gears?? Never heard of an adjustable camshaft? Yes, you can buy them from GMPARTSDIRECT.com or from SMG Motoring.

Good idea. I want to extract more power from the cams, down low. IT should allow me to move the power curve around in the RPM band.
