My 20 min Google search on the question of, What are the benefits of an adjustable cam gear. The most common answer was it allows you to tune the power band to better suit your racing/use of the engine. Is there much to it beyond that? Would this really benefit us doing NA motors?

well... you could also look at it like this... mcmonies cam gears are aluminum vs the stock steel ones. so there is a weight savings right there. that alone would sell me...
back in the day the rocket parts program sold actual adjustable gears for use in the quad engines, they got more power out of engines by doing a certain combination. it says it right in the gm rocket parts catalog. works best with their 226 cams iirc...
it may not help a whole bunch but for n/a every little bit helps.

Ok I know Im alittle late on this and still new to the site but Im definatly interested in buying a set if available. Im gonna be rebuilding my top end soon and these would me a great asset.
Idk if anybody still cares about this but in response to the starting post the Saturn cam gears will NOT work on our engines. I compared them today at work and took some pictures.
The Saturn cam is the one on the left and the 2.4 cam is on the right.
Flipped over.
Chains are very different as well.
Yea thats one hell of a difference. Thanks for tryin though.

Got to looking a Lil closer this time around, and i noticed something.
When your going to adjust the timing, can you see the timing marks pretty clearly with the chain cover on?
Im officially jealous of everybody that gets a set of these.
As for the tensioners... I have no idea. I remember having a hard time with these in my friends car but I cant remember how he ended up getting them in.
personally... i like the machined look better but the polished is BAMF too

That's what mine always look like when I install them. Then I take a flat blade screw driver and pry lightly between the tensioner and shoe to fully compress the piston, then release and the piston pops against the shoe and tightens the chain right up.

so... if my calculations are correct, with these being + or - 10 degrees for each cam there would be 100 diffferent combinations of cam timing we could try, yes?
thats a lot! lol thank god you already have some what my setup, mcmoney. auto with ho cams!
i really need to read up on cam timing and adjustability, i dont know enough about it yet.

the tensioner is fixed so the engine will be the car tomorrow
just because I like to show off
and for the timing mark it's hard to see at tdc you only need to rotate the engine to put the mark in the middle

Never thought timing gears would bring such a smile to my face
