It basically does what it says. I have one, and I would say it is worth the money. Basically what it does is allow you to tune your automatic to shift when you want it to (RPMs) Its pretty sensitive, so it might make the transmition jump at first, but once you get it fine tuned, it just adds the edge that automatics normally lack.
I just want to make sure I'm reading your post correctly, the Autotrans lets you set when you shift gears?

i dont think it makes your tranny shift when you want it too.
some debate on if it improves 1/4 mile time. but everyone that has it seems to happy with it

it does NOT let u set when your gears shift. in simple terms, it makes your auto trans shift a lot "harder" and "faster" inbetween gears. Its pretty cool.. but doesnt really make a diff in the 1/4.
i got .2 tenths in the 1/4 when i had mine , and ive got the same with the shift plus
and it is just harder and quicker
i like the shift plus alot better , the shifts are more consistant and i can switch between the 2 levels with out getting out of the car
