Does the AEM cold air intake make a pretty big difference? Or would it be just as good to make my own intake?

It would be cheaper if you make your own

I had the AEM on my ecotec cavalier. It was a great intake and I felt a nice improvement over the stock setup. its going to be hard to make a cold air intake. A lot of bend and custom piping. I would just get the AEM and call it a day. You wont regret it.

I've built a couple, but you will be a lot happier with a good name brand CAI as opposed to a WAI

Yea, I'm sure that auto 2200 with an intake is just a beast...

i never said it was a beast......
but it moves wayyyy faster than stock between 3 and 5k on RPM.
all i ment by it was for the money i got a good performance gain over stock.
i felt HP gain, and accel faster in 3-5 range is way better.
[car generally stock. just intake, exhaust, and partial ignition]

.....gawd, i freakin hate some ppl on here with there comments!!!!
but whutever...i had a good gains, hopefully u do too! i say go for it!

Yeah, cause you could beat him with a 5spd 2200!!

Yeah bud I'd just go with the kit AEM provides. The AEM CAI intake was my first mod besides tires. And I was VERY happy with it.

When I first drove it out of the garage and around town i didn't notice any difference. Until I stepped on the pedal a bit and then you hear the intake roar.

he's not claiming his car "FLY's"

in reality your not gonna notice a gain, there will be one but minor enough where you wont be able to tell. You will think its fast as hell though becasue an intake will make the engine louder.

No, that's not what I said, but thanks for trying. Not sure why I would need to beat him either

That was not an auto vs manual comment so don't turn it into that, I was only stating what kind of car it was.

And I'm not sure if you were reffering to my car or not but my 2.2 5spd is very slow. So, I don't go around saying an intake is gonna make it fly because it won't.
