I had an idea of just posting a thread with my vehicle , and anytime I'd want to add something I could just repost it here - maybe save some extra threads along the way. Try it and see how it goes.

So here is the new plates I ordered off of DMV for the old Sunbird since it's about that time to renew - thought they were right nice & kinda catchy - and just wanted to share here.

Well that is simple and nice design of plate. On downfall here for personal plates is 58.00 and my trusted 87 mazda truck has had a personal plate like um the last 25yrs.I figure if I add some personal stuff to my cav it will be a front plate (free yr to yr) and be about the model or year you know.I like it.

That's cheap When my plates were stolen I was going to get personal plates that read N0 PL8S till the bmv lady told me it would be a little over $100 total.

Virginia has probably a hundred different styles of plates here. It is amazing. Some , as usual, cost more than others.

This one only cost $10 extra over a standard plate a year, but cost and extra $10 on top of that for the first year. It also had the most combination of numbers/letters/characters I could work with. All together it cost me $59.75 this time around.

I figure I wind up wasting some money here and there all during the year, splurging a little on the plates is at least something I can enjoy all year long

Cool plate. Before I went the historical route, I always wanted "84TURBO". It looked really sweet with white on lake superior blue that our old plates had. They are pretty plain looking now IMHO.

Here is a some of the before & after photos I ran across when I was backing up my computer a week or so ago. This is the seats I was lucky enough to get out of a Firenza Sedan. The front seats just needed the hardware swapped, but I had to to struggle to mod the back seat enough to fit in the coupe!! In the end, though, everything fit in and looks almost original. I am very lucky to have found power seats for the drivers side in both my coupe & wagon!!

Guess I'm lucky to be in PA--one time $22 charge for the plate, then regular yearly rate of $36 after that.

Ron--in NC, isn't that $58.00 a one-time charge, then you have the regular renewal rate?

My plate says MAQ 5

.....and here is the evolution of the dash, column & wheel. I wanted a black tilt column......well - I guess just because....and I didn't want to rattle can them , so it was a lot of looking and even more luck!!
Had to do some searching to find one for both the coupe and wagon. Both have interval wipers & tripometer in the speedos. Found a vintage radio mounting kit on craigs list very cheap to mount the modern radios. Even managed to find dash benzels for both cars out of a Cimarron - the 2nd one came from PaulZ28 :-)
Hope to come across one more set of original floor mats - can't believe I've got a set for both cars as well!!

Guess I've been either very picky, or somewhat obsessed, but I've got them set up just the way I'd like to have them at least when I ease behind the wheel. Finally decided I want new gauges for temp/pressure/tach, since the originals are so so old, and I'm not sure of their reliability and accuracy, but I've had a devil of a time trying to figure out where in the heck to put 'em. Even GM seemed to have the same ordeal, since some of those gauges were crammed to the bottom of the tachometer face.

That 58.00 is a yearly rate and never changes. It was cheaper years ago but,the state upd the cost and even if you get it new you pay said price and continues as long as you have said plate.

Well, rather than start up a brand new thread for something so small I just dug up my old one here. Thought it was so special to see the old girl get her 30th inspection this year. I've never owned a 30 year old car so this is a thrill for me. Hope in the years to come as many a J passes this moment it brings a much a grin to you face as well my friends!

Cool orlen as I well hit #29 with sunny a month back after the fuel tank updates. It truly is amazing how in MY opinon our cars have stood the test of use, time and dependable these many years later.A short thought is back in the day when my sister owned sunny as a new ride I also called it gm junk.Only to later realize how really well made and fun this car is to me!I do believe it was my younger days and well owning a mazda thinking there were no solid little American cars worth a hoot.I will today stand behind this cars reputation for the crazy looks I get when people ask what project I work or own and they say a cavalier oh.Love my j and would not change owning that over some of the inferior cars in the same time made that clearly are not still on the road today or at least kept up and used from time to time. The escort that was a throw away car, dodge had nothing as most of those are crushed too,the list is lengthy on the 80s rides not in use or one here or there and no real following to this day almost 30years now for economy cars.OK

Cool Update Orlen - congrats on the milestone!

Agree with some of the comments, a sighting of an early 80s car up here is a rare event. But when you do see it, you know it isn't a MOPAR or an import. Most of the time it is a GM X/A/J Car that has been senior owned as is on its 2nd or 3rd owner. We do see some early 80s well preserved mustangs from time to time also. There is also a guy a couple of streets over that brought up a Shelby Charger from down south so restore. I may happen by there and introduce myself while he is working on it.
