Hi everyone! I have a 97 cavalier. Sometimes when i am driving the anti-theft light will come on. Sometimes when it is on, all my dash lights will come on and the temp guage will go down to zero, then go back to normal. At these times the car keeps running normal. A few times lately though my car has been harder to start, especially when the anti-theft light comes on. This morning it wouldn't start at all. I ran the battery down so i put the charger on it and also pluged the block heater in too so it would be easier to start. This evening i tried it and it started right away but all the dash lights stayed on, i got my giflfriend to check them while i played around under the hood and they eventually all went off except the anti-theft light, not sure if i really did anything to make them go off though. After this the anti-theft light was still on so i shut the car off and restarted it and it didn't come back on. The car starts perfects again, but it pisses me off not knowing what the hell is causing this and what i can do to fix it. This has only happened to me twice so far that the car wouldn't start, but it makes me not want to drive it. Also this morning when i first tried to start it, it never really even tried to start at all, just turned over with maybe once trying to start. Any ideas??? I need help with this. Oh yeah, the light hardly ever comes on when driving, it only happened three or four times. Thanks...
Try having a dealer reprogram the BCM.
Sounds like a bad alternator to me...
Have the electrical system checked-

I was actually thinking that it could be the alternator when it first happened. It still charges good but maybe it is shorting out of something, anymore ideas? The car is working perfectly now. I just wonder when it will do it again, worse thing is that i hardly ever drive it, the girlfriend does. I just don't want her to be leaving the hospital to come home from work and the damn thing not start on her. I leave her drive my ZR2 but with gas at 87.9, the cavalier is alot better for longer commutes.
