I figured I would write this in here since it should solve alot of peoples problems.
I am using a 2000 Impala harness and PCM with the latest swap im doing, an 02 Cav. The fuel gauge works with this pcm.

Lower Intake replacemen updatedt!!!!!!!!

I would like to make a note that Felpro has changed their LIM Lower intake manifold gaskets design! They have changed several months ago from plastic to a steel gasket with a vulcanized rubber on it, It is available in a complete kit which now includes the oil pump shaft seal, as well as the upper, and a couple of coolant O rings. Injector O rings dont come with the kit, and at times difficult to get.so dont remove them, just remove the 2 bolts holding down the injector rail and shift it around to remove the LIM bolts. The torque specs are on the package and I believe they are different from the old plastic gaskets specs. I have had 2 total come back out of around 25 or so , both were typical failures, cracks and O-ring failure, one was a felpro, cant remember the other name. i have the plastic one on mine, no leaks yet so Im not switching over to the metal one yet. I have installed 4 sets of metal ones and , going on 4 months and none came back.
If you change it yourself be sure to follow the torque specs to a T, borrow an inch lb torque wrench and a 1/4 inch swivel, or a 10mm low profile swivel, you will need it for the outside short bolts. clean all of the threaded holes and bolts with clorinated brake parts cleaner, and use lock tight.[/color
One more thing, Rocker arm bolts are torqued then an additional 30 degrees. I dint remember the spec but its like slightly snug, I would have to look it up. Just wanted to know that they throw in that 30 degrees spec crap.

Will the fuel pump have to be swapped if swapping from a 97 2.2 OHV engine to a 3.1 engine from a 99 malibu? Will the fuel pump from the Malibu work in the tank for the cavi 2.2? Thanks.

NO
use the stock fuel pump

the only difference in the fuel pump is the sender the 99 malibu is a 40ohms empty and 250 full and your 97 sunfire is 0ohms empty and 90 full

just run you factory pump you will be fine, i'm running a cavalier pump on my 3800SC and i require more fuel then the 3400 and i only have issues at 5000rpm ish so a 3400 will have no issues at all running off a 97 sunfire pump

the 97 fuel pump and sender is the same as the 98 grand ams with a 3100 and the 99 malibu is the same as the 99 cavaliers the only difference is the level sensor which you need the 98 and older or your fuel gauge will be wrong

Alright, cool.... now does anyone know if anyone has started selling upper and lower mounts for this swap? And, could the upper mount just be brought up that inch with some washers or something like that? Just wondering, because it sounded to me like you could just do that to get it to sit level and not have to go through making a mount braket or whatever. Thanks.

Quiklilcav may still be doing the upper brackets and lower brackets are here:

But the dimensions for the lower bracket are on a previous page.

Your best bet is (if using a 3rd gen) is to find one with a 2.2l non-eco and go from there.

You can use a W41 gear box with the V6, You have to use the V6 Belhousing and W41 case. That was you can get the better gearing from the W-41.

you need a tranny with a bell housing for a 2.2, 2200, or 60 degree v6 they all share the same bell housing. ALL QUAD FOUR MOTORS HAVE A DIFFRENT PATTERN.

Guys quit it, this is a sticky. Facts go here, not arguing or assumptions on what might work. Thats what threads are for.

What I am saying is if you want the better W-41 gearing, 3.94 final drive, 3.50 first, 2.05 second, 1.38, third, 1.03 forth, and .81 fifth gear. I belive that most gearboxs have much higher 4th and 5h gears in the range of .92 and .74 or some where in that range.

You split the case of the transmision, and swap out the v6 half (bellhousing) in place of the Quad4 half.

Yes this can be done, I did it, and it was in my 92. We did have to remove on spacer part from on the the shift rails and check the bearing crush. Other than that it was very straight forward.

Just one more way to go a little bit faster.

Some not so good pics.

Thanks for all the useful info. I have a 01 2.2 automatic. Ive been having a hard time trying to figure everything out but im still not sure which engine I want to go with. Fabing parts and welding is not going to be a problem I have access to race shops, its the wiring thats going to give me a headache. I would like to get a donor car with a 6 cylinder, 5 speed, and and just pull everything, use the donor car wiring harness. get everything done in one shot. What will work best? Which engine has the most aftermarket support? what would the best choice for a donor car be? Ive build many v8 cars/ race cars. Im new to all this 4-6 banger/transaxle stuff if some one could lay out all my options I dont know anything about these engines.

12 and any others that need more reading material.

The following thread often gets pushed back a page or 2 , It is originally what was used for swap info before the sticky. There are answers there that may not be in the sticky. I know its long but lots of info there, like problems encountered as they occured. there is some bickering at times, but all in good conversation. Search function works great here.
So in addition to reading the sticky look over this large thread also.
http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=30&i=33041&t=33041

12 , there are no 3400's with 5 spd's from the factory to buy as a full donor drop in.. I believe the G6 GT has a 6 sp with the 3400 but no one has gone down that road yet.
Start a new post, with some before , during and after pics ,,,after searching for answers of course, and let us know what you want to build, you can do a simple engine and auto tranny swap or do a stick with lots of extras. As with everything , the budget for the build is what you want to look at along with the time your wanting to take to finish it. sometimes it has to do with whats available to you. Many guys are running older 3100's cause thats whats available for them. the 3400's are popular but appear to be hard to get deals on in some areas.
Note , before you buy an engine, All of the 60 degree engines have Lower intake gasket problem, easily fixed if not overheated . Remember this when looking for a donor engine. Oil in antifreeze, antifreeze in oil, and antifreeze leaking out the intake valleys(ends of heads).
You can also stop here http://60degreev6.com/ for further info.

Mr Goodwrench is back !!!!!!!!!

Had to set the cavy to the side as I worked on other things . Everything is in the sameplace that I left it when I had to stop . But will be removing the A/C this time and any related components . Check everything and fire it up again , I can say that the car was not fully tuned and would light the tires up . Also it sounded very mean with the 3" exhuast . Anyway I will be working on it this summer , and planning to super charge the car as well . Anyway I am back and will bounce in about once a week to see what all is going on . Plenty of time to do things now that the economy is all screwed up and hours are being cut

Also have to get another website up and going . Adelphia was taken over by Comcast and everything is gone . But have back up files of the website that can be uploaded to a new one . And somewhere I have the schematic for the lower dogbone mount . Which I wished I had now

ok guys so i pulled out my blown 2.2 today out of my 98 rs automatic. i'm wanting to v6 swap so bad i can't stand it. whats my best option as far as budget swapping and keeping my trans.. i know this has all been gone over. but there is just so much info here that my burnt out brain is takin a lot of work to process it... i've got the mechanic skill and fab skills that i know i'll be able to do this. the only thing turnin me away is the electronics part.. piggy backin and that sort of thing.. wireing is about the only thing i hate bout new cars.. but please guys help me out here!!! i wanna be able to have the only 3rd gen in my town that will blow all these danm hondas out of the water with out and not have a turbo or supercharger.. i had a cobalt ss/sc and goin from that to my cavy 2.2 turd has really brought my comfidence to race anything down!

If its Not Fast.. Get it off the danm track!!

I'm doing the swap in a couple of weeks and need this stuff before I bother starting lol if there is anything I should know that anyone encountered, like with the fuel guage, please let me know, I would rather have all sorts of input then nothing at all

For the wiring harness, you might want to talk to gtpsunfire or NOTa2_4. I'm not positive, but I believe both of them have done wiring harnesses for people. No idea what they charged.

what is an avg cost to make the swap?
and the basic parts I will need to buy or fab

I'm not certain on the average cost, my husband and I just picked u an '05 Grand Am with the 3.4 from the wreckers for $700 and we're using a Mega Squirt computer system instead of playing with PCM's. Fairly simple and straight forward, just need the computer and will be jumping into the project! Going to another wrecker for the 2.2 tranny for $100, and we'll be rockin'! =D
