2200sfi overheating issue.
Wednesday, September 22, 2010 3:19 PM
I have a 2002 cavalier with a 2200sfi, car heats up quickly whenever idling or a lot of going/stopping. But if i get in the clear and punch it cools down very quickly. I'm not sure if this is normal for these cars or if it's something that is an actual problem.

The car will only heat until the 3/4 line (between 90 and 125) and the fan will kick in and it will go down a bit.
I would like to know some info about this due my old mazda protege did not heat up like this, my 'rents mazda 3 doesn't, nor does my sister's sunfire.

Fan works and coolant is at the correct level (dex-cool)

If you have any info it would be greatly appreciated.

This is pretty much normal with the 2200s. I put a toggle switch in my fan wiring so I can flip it on if I'm idling for too long (or just turn on the a/c so the fan kicks on)

Yup very normal for the 2200. I will say switch from dexcool to a traditional antifreeze mix.

that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra
scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster, roaming the countryside.

Changed the fluid last summer when my water pump seal went, replaced completely with the pre-mixed dexcool. So the coolants only a year old. It was a lot worst i had a fuse go and my fan wasn't working for the longest time, just noticed it wasn't a few weeks ago, replaced the fuse and now that works.

Take the car to a car wash that you can spray and use the high pressure setting and spray your condensor and radiator off to clean them. Dirt and such can cause this to happen bc airflow is not covering all of your radiator and such. Plus it really could not hurt.

Sounds like a plan. There's actually a good chance of dirt in there, i was working on a camp on a muddy camp road for a while this summer.

Ive replaced bad water pumps on these. The turbine blades start to wear out due to the dexcool.
