swapping from 98 2.2 cavalier to 95 2.2 cavalier

My son is swapping from a 98 2.2 to a 95 2.2. We have used everything from the 98 except the block. We know that the 95 does not have a cam sensor and we are not getting any fire when we try to start it. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you gone over the mechanical basics? Are you getting spark? Are you getting any fuel at all? My gut tells me that without the cam sensor, the ECM isn't firing any of the injectors.

Out of curiosity, why are you trying to use a 95 block in a 98? When you say you used everything from the 98 except the block, do you mean you swapped the 98 cylinder head and all to the 95 block?

The more information you can provide, the better chance of someone being able to help you diagnose your problem.

yes we used the 98 cylinder head with the 95 block. The fuel pump is pressurizing.

You may experience detonation as the compression ratio has been upped considerably by this combo. The 95 ignition module and wiring is different than the 96 and later.

Also, the computer on the 95 was not supported by any common tuning software and the detonation issue really will need some ignition timing changes to get it to work, if at all.
