Do remote keyless entry modules ever wear out?
Saturday, February 18, 2012 5:54 PM
Having a problem with my 03 fire keyless entry, the other night it wouldn't respond to either of the two key fobs I have at all. Replaced the batteries in the fobs and still nothing. Then it started working at random times so I went under the dash and found what I think is the module. (Couldn't be sure because at that point it was dark out but it had what looked like a harness connector and a small rectangular relay plugged into it.) I wiggled on the wires on the harness plug and now it works at distances less than ten feet. Not sure what to do next because I read the FAQ and saw it said any 00+ has to go to the dealership to have a tech 2 scanner plugged in to reprogram the bcm settings. Anybody have any experience or input on this?

They do wear out, my key fob did that last springg. worked sometimes, and sometimes not, and only next to the car, got a new key fob & yes you need the GM tech 2 to do that. The fob was 55 bucks from the dealer for me.
