ok so I have been reading over this post and i can't seem to find my information so I am going to ask and see if anyone answers. I have a 2000 vert and I have a RTS radio and I want to put that in there. I need to know how to do it because my car has different plugs is there an adaptor to get for it and such? or do i need to rip out the whole wireing harness for that specific car. Apparently there was convertibles with that radio in it. Someone please help me i don't want to spend more money then I have to and I don't want to have to have a GM dealer install it i know i have to get it unlocked by them but thats not as bad as paying to have them put it in.

Ok.. I have researched my problem for a while now.. I have read all 13 pages on the subject here. Let me explain and if there is anyone out there listening that can help I would greatly appreciate it.

2000 Sunfire - purchased the car with the radio wires cut off..I have researched this and understand that once that radio was pulled out the Daytime running lights will not work.. no keyfob, no chimes..no auto door locks while driving.. So i decided to try and install a factory match back into the car..Yes. i know that I will have to have the dealership install VIN after the installation is complete.. Since I have no idea if this radio was a monsoon or not I have tried a couple of locale dealerships to see if they could run my VIN number and tell me what type of radio was originally installed.. Both stated that the VIN was 'TOO OLD' but did state that most Sunfires that year had Monsoon radios if it came with a sunroof. No sunroof.. 2.2 engine .. not a GT.. so I would be safe to say it did not. I will assume that it came with factory CD player attached. All the sunfires that I have found in that year did.. Only difference was Monsoon or not.. Now.. I have a diagram that shows what each wire goes to on the back side of factory radio. But the plug that I will assume is the BUS (short ) side of the radio also has wires. The harness wires that are clipped for the radio match perfectly.. But I can not find where or how do I attach the BUS wires into that harness. I have checked and there are no other harnesses that I can see in the dash. And that is my question? How do these wires tie into harness?

When I bought my car it had an aftermarket stereo deck installed and my chimes work fine. There's no special harness behind it or anything that I noticed when I put a better deck in.

Take a look behind the carpet in your trunk.

Probably has a factory deck relocate kit.

Doubt it. My trunk leaks so bad I could park the Titanic back there. Drilled a couple holes in the spare tire well to drain it. Rounded the jack and the dummy tire's giant wingnut is totally rusted onto the bolt.

I'll take a look tomorrow. Where would it be?

quick question, I have the factory mp3 cd player from my 05 cavalier (car got t-boned going down the highway..........) and I was wondering if it would plug and play into my wife's 2001 cavalier cd player harness.

Thanks!

It'll plug, but it won't play until you visit a GM dealer or someone with a Tech 2 diagnostic tool to reflash the BCM to work with the radio.

Same goes for any 00-05 J-body radio... and most other GM cars in this time period.

what's it take to reflash if you have the tool?

The know-how to use the tool, and about 5 minutes. Basically, any radio using Class 2 data sharing protocols.. the radio and BCM are 'linked' so you can't steal one out of one car and just stuff it into another. Most stock radios will work in another car, it's easier if you know the RPO code of the car it came out of and just pick that out of the list that appears when you go to re-flash the BCM.
