So I'll need to have an ATM tap fuse to run a wire from the wiper fuse to the aftermarket unit correct? And then wire the aftermarket unit up color by color to the adapter to the factory plug correct?

Does not. Philly is spot on, use that add-a-fuse thing. Cruise control fuse is also switched with the ignition btw.

Okay, thank you for clearing this up. I think I'm ready to do the swap, just not quite confident that it's the correct adapter.

It looks like the right adapter and FYI the adapter I bought, it didn't have the red wire separate like yours, it went to the connector and I didn't notice anything until I tried turning the stereo on and didn't work. I had to cut the red wire out and run it to the fuse box. It kind of sucked cause everything was nicely soldered and shrink wrapped. It looks like you have everything you need though, I'm sure you will do fine, also, be careful taking the antana connector out of the factory deck. I broke mine taking it off, but I put a new end on mine.

Factory plug definitely has a switched source otherwise my radio would never turn off.

I have installed radios and remote starts in almost every year jbody and never had to tap for a switched source unless there is something crazy with some years that I never seen. Almost all factory radios have a switched 12 and a constant from factory. Otherwise they would not turn off. There is a 10min timer for the radio to turn off if you do not open the door. Once the drivers door is open and the ignition is off the radio will shut off. I have installed radios on 95,97, 99, 00, 02, 03, 05s, never once had to tap in, there were all plug n play.

Here is the harness I usually use if it doesn't have onstar or the premium sound.

You're bypassing the issue by using the more expensive class 2 data harness that can read the stock signals. The cheap harness with no brain needs a 12 switched source from somewhere else.

Exactly, I actually thought that harness was more expensive. The cheap harness was like $5. Like I said in my first post, the 2000 and newer has a "data" wire that turns the radio on and off, not a 12+ volt switched wire. With that "brain box" the car will send it a "data" signal and it will send a 12+ volt signal to the radio.

Guys, give it a rest lol. It's been installed by trail and error. The adaptor interface is basically useless, had to make my own holes to screw it where the factory holes are. And the left side sticks out about 3 mm more than the right, which bothers me from the cluster @!#$ of wires in the back

I cut the back of my dash out to make room. Very easy with a dremal.

I dremeled the back of it also, still doesn't fit. I'm very happy with the install, just that the one side sticking out further than the right irritates my OCD side. Here's a photo for you all to enjoy. I might take it apart again in the future to add the microphone and fix the alignment issue. Too damn cold right now. Also fixed the dash by drilling new holes to hold it in place since the stock locations all cracked off.

would losing the marrets and soldering/shrink wrapping the wires help with space?

I'll take it apart again in the future to do that, right now it's too cold for that.

Oh okay, you work outside? I know how you feel. I finally upgraded to an unheated garage last year. I do have a heated shop at work but try to do most things at home. When its cold, you just want it to work, when its warm, you can take your time and make it neat.

the most accurate statement on the internet. In the spring, I'll make the wiring all neat again by soldering

Even but splices will work better and give you the room you need.

You can fit alot back there. I have my harness like yours as well and my tr7 module. If you push it off to the sides you can make it work very easy.

you will not have the dinging when you open the door with that adapter. you should have gotten a scorche adapter with the sound box from walmart. that will work completely fine you just would have the warning if you leave your lights on or anything.
