Best Amp for the Money for Subs
Saturday, March 19, 2005 3:38 PM
I am running two Rockford P3 subs. I have a Sony amp that I would like to upgrade. They can handle 500 RMS and 1000 peak. I've heard that Rockford amps and Hifonics amps are good, but Rockford is too much, just paying for the name. Any opinions here? Other amps that are very good quality for the price? Thanks!

I have a Hifonics BX1000D (1000 watts RMS at a 1ohm load) and I am running 2 Audiobahn AWC12T sub woofers and god it pounds like a mutha. But in terms of the amp it was really cheap and I love it. it was only $203 shipped from ikesound.com have fun

its not that your paying for a name, its that they make a product that gave them a name.

actually, the head designer that made RF so good works for mtx now. I find that for the relative improvement in quality, the price difference for RF isn't worth it.

I have always liked the rockford power series circa 2000 or so. I have a 800a2 pushing one 12 inch p3, and it is awesome. I cost me 300, but you can get 2 500a2 for about 100 each and they will give you near 1400 watts max at 2 ohms, which is what the p3 likes.
I know it isnt the brand new hot item at best buy, but they have been good to me, and the 800a2 has the remote bass controls, which is nice to have under the dash.
Just my .02

Check out Power Acoustik and SPL amps.. I got my SPL cheap off ebay.. 800 watts RMS @ 2 ohms mono and 375x2 @ 4 ohms.. for about $150. I think I saw a more powerful one for about 200 bucks..
