Ok so me and my friend were installing a system into his friends lincoln something or other car. And i went to unscrew the + off of the speaker terminal on his amp while i was unscrewing it the screwdriver hit the amps outer shell which was metal (i cant think of the name what it really is so ima stick with shell) oh maybe the word is case.. But anyways There was nothing at all connected to the amp no power no ground no RCAs and it sparked! i Jumped back and was like WTF . So im like mayybe im seeing things so i put the screwdriver back on and tilted it to the case of the amp and it sparked again. I checked the amps fuse after that to make sure i didnt harm it but it was ok. Soo amps self contain power in them? this is something new to me!

I would assume they would for a little while... pretty much all you did was complete the circut by having the postive touch the case (Ground). Did it on accident on my old amp and it left a nice black scuff mark.

You discharged some capacitors. Not really a big deal unless ou make a habit of it..

same hapenned to me when i was hookin up my Bazooka 1200 watt to my sub. no ground, no positive, but it sparked nonetheless. No biggie, my amp cover hides the burn just fine.

I didnt ever no they store a little power in them. I just was scared crapless cuz i thought that the postive was hooked up or somethin. I Jumped back at least a foot. lol i looked back at it and was like

capacitors store their charge for a very long time. to my understanding, the bigger the cap, the longer it can store it. i know the ones inyour computer monitor can store a DEADLY charge for several years after its turned off. thats all that was, like my buddy americonium said. not the end of the world.
