I need more tuning help.

I know Im helpless. How do you guys set your gains side to side? Equal or higher on the passenger side? I have my passenger side a little higher and it seems like Im not getting my front stage to blend together. I feel like I can pick each side apart but the driver side is more noticeable. Is it just the amount of distance or what?

Ive also got an EQ now. I traded my broken Soundstream amp (the old blue one) for it plua some cash. Its early 90s technology. Kenwood 12-band parametric EQ. Its at home right now so its not installed. It has din plugs coming out but RCAs coming in. Where would I go about getting din-to-RCA adapters? And it looks like the one RCA coming into the EQ is cut a little on the jacket. I can see the wires inside. Can I just cut the wire and solder on a new section and end?

Last question. Does anyone know where I can get a USACi competition disk? I want to try using their tracks and such to tune with so I have something consistent to work with.

I wish I knew what any of that meant good luck.

go straight to usaci's website to get discs. as for left verse right, i keep mine pretty much centered. that way its as good in the passenger seat as it is in the center. not even getting into the fact that louder doesnt mean its nesicarily hitting your ears at the same time so its not really helping in the soundstage department.

Thanks sir. Things that I think up dont always work the best. I figured it made sense since when I had them running off the same channel which would put them in sync I would notice that I could hear the driver side louder than the passenger. Not necessarily that the driver side was earlier just louder.

Set each gain by ear. Turn the gain on your drivers side up until you hear distortion, then back it off until you notice the point it disappears. Then do the same thing for the passenger's side.

Here is the single biggest thing you can do to improve your sound:
Help!! My soundstage ate my windshield!
This makes an unbelievable difference.

If you don't have mono pink noise at each frequency for your eq (which who does), you can get test tones here:

Thanks sir. Ive idolized your work since I joined here which is oddly enough when I think you disappeared. Ill try that out. I heard that EQ adjustments can shift the sound stage so when I got the opportunity to get one I did.

Im not sure if I can boost and cut side to side with my EQ. Heres some pics of it: (Not mine stole them from the guy I got it from)

I really havent had a chance to play with it as I still havent figured out how to cross the din plug to RCA gap.

looks like that is a single setting so you cant change frequencies side to side. just a total sound change for both channels. looks like that this is from the 80's. if you want something a little more high end ive got an old audio control eqt in the garage. its real finicky with noise but i'lll let it go cheap.

I found it online its late 80s early 90s. I wasnt going to get anyone to pay for my broken amp so this was my best best. How cheap is cheap?

Is it a mono one? All of the ones I found online are. So I would need two of them.

No. I never got a return slip or anything. If I was supposed to I never did.

hmm odd. he said he would send a return slip, but he hasn't mentioned it since, so it's all fine. BTW, that return address you were all baffled about, with him being in NJ, is the warehouse where all the stock of his large quantity stuff is at. It's a long story, and even a bit of info I don't think I should explain on a public forum for privacy and security reasons, but it's all clear to at least me now lol.
