finally turboed chris gatti's cavlier

long story short.... he came over to have me do the down pipe and intercooler piping. went to install the cast ebay turbo manifold and the damn turbo wouldnt fit. the next option was for me to make one. so i did, it was a little better in deign then a cast but not as much as a full tubular manifold. got that done then built the down pipe and boost piping and did some extensive modding to his intake manifold to make it fit and work better. heres a few pics below....... theres about 40 total and ill put those up later.

Beautiful welds! I installed my cast manifold recently, and the jealousy of your tubular one is strong.

Its all good Mike, and josh wait till you see the inside shots of the manifold.

Just for clarification for when the pix go up of the intake manifold. Yes it is a vulcan manifold but i didnt like the design they had, side of it was squeezing my upper radiator hose. So i had mike cut it shorter and take out the nasty 1/8 inch lip from the runners welds. Because he made those adjustments to it i talked him into putting his tag on it.

very nice. is it just me or is the cold side pipe teeny?

It's nice to be injected but I love being blown.

No pipe is tucks perfectly under the window washer bottle making it look smaller, Pipes are 2.5 hot and cold.

What size turbo is that again? FMIC looks quite oversized unless its like a 1" core....

Clean up some wires in the bay and it will look a ton better. Move that evap crap down under the motor... its the black thing with the green cap behind the power steering box... it can be put under the car very simply and cleans the look up a million.

its a 60 trim and the core is 2.75" i believe. never heard of running to big of an intercooler before..... why do u say that cause of the pressure drop..... if so we are kind of anticipating that because hes running a 9psi spring in the wastegate and we only wanna boost 8 lbs. we are pulling the signal right off the compressor nozzle instead of the intake manfiold. ill let chris take care of the engine bay cosmetics.... ive done my part in there.

His registry says Garrett t3-t4 60 trim under the Future category. I am with you about the FMIC, looks too big for any boost what appears to be a stock motor could handle.

Sweet welding job, the manifolds look great. I'd have you do my turbo setup if you weren't so far away.

I do plan on tucking some wires away, by the time we got this all done it was 3am christmas day lol and the both is were done.
Never knew the evap could be moved tho thats one ill do for sure too.
I plan on a motor build in the next year (taxes) why i went for the bigger ic
Exhaust is going on tomorrow!

Yeah it just un clips, it only has if I recall that one vac line to it. Mine is zip tied under neat to the rail and it cleans it up a ton!

I would expect to see even more lag being its a .60 trim as well as that big of an FMIC. Not to mention, once we see the bumper on the car, how much is blocked by the bumper? What power levels will you be going for? I have a 575hp 7.8" X 24" X 3.5", with a 1.5psi drop fmic that will fill the entire front gap in the bumper and not have any hidden behind the bumper cover. Just seems like a lot of cutting and chopping for it to fit and have so much hidden and such a pressure drop/lag from the size.

Overall its your car and your choice. I just hope it works out for you until you build the motor. We all know any boost is better than no boost or a stock cavalier.

Mike - looking at monday giving han a call today if hes not closed monday ill do it then.

Built- i do see your point more then half the ic is covered. I was looking at a smaller cx racing one before i got this one but i took the cheaper route hopefully it dont kill my boost to bad a 1 lb or 2 would be perfect tho as im running a 9lb spring in the wastegate and i wanna end up at 7-8 lbs to start

already understood, now please quit making the large front mount and 60 trim out to be king lag.... its not like its gonna spool like a 67mm or something bigger.

run a teeny intercooler for less lag and a meth kit.

if it were me, id be running a 3" cold side.

It's nice to be injected but I love being blown.

we used what we had for intercooler piping, theres literally 5 different types of piping being used there and all of it was 2.5". right now were looking at most 300whp. once he builds it who knows what the goal will be.

You really need to make a turbo kit for us...similar to what Atomic made but actually fit.

Make a hot side kit where it includes the manifold and downpipe for a specific turbo, and a cold side kit if people are so inclined.

Id buy one in a second.

I can not say this this setup, but a friends car had a massive intercooler that we thought was way over kill. Until tuning time. As we watched the iats drop as we took gear after gear. The harder we pushed the more they dropped. Stock motor we made 314whp nd 326 (I think ) wtq. We eve mace 356wtq on one pull.
