Mitsu TEO-4H turbo work well on a 99 2.4 ??
Friday, April 07, 2006 1:13 PM
I have a Mitsubishi TEO-4H turbo, they were on dodge 2.2 and 2.5 motors, and I am wondering if it'll work good on a 1999 2.4 cavalier motor. I will be fab'ing up my own exhaust manifold. Also my other question is, how do I know what ratio FMU to get? 12:1 ? 10:1 ? 7:1 ? I only will run 5-6 psi Boost. trying to use what i have and spend as little as possible. Thanks -Joe

I understand that your trying to work with what you have to save a few bucks. but using the wrong stuff will cost you more in the long run then using the right stuff from the get go. the mitsu turbos used on those cars were small even for them but they did get the job done, you *could* use it on your engine but you will want a good intercooler even at 5-6 psi. you may want to do some more research and pick up a turbo better matched to your engine. as for the FMU many on here have had good results with them but i dont personaly recomend it. search thru old posts and see what ones people have used. i am confident you will find the answers you need

What would be a better choice for a turbo for the 2.4 L engine? I'm not looking to race it or get 300 hp out of it....I just want a few more ponies when I get on the gas, maybe 200 HP realistically, and i always wanted a turbo car.

with power goals that small it could do the job. a 63 60 t3 from a manual turbo coupe or a early (84-86) 300zx turbo would be a better choice tho. if you want like no lag use the .48 ar turbine housing from a saab or an auto turbo coupe. you ill just need to keep a closer watch on your egt's. with the mitsu or the .48 turbine on the t3 you may want to use an external wastegate to prevent boostcreep.

Well, only reason im using the TEO4H is that I already have it. Whats an EGT? I dont mind some lag, as i'd like to keep good gas mileage around town. also, This one is already set-up with an Internal wastegate.

you proably wont have much lag with that small turbine. and with an internal wastegate you mayrun into boostcreep. EGT exhaust gas temp gauge, anyone should have one of these. great tuning tool.

Its probably WAY to small for a 3.8L V6. And for turbo info for your car, you may want to check out a mitsubishi galant forum, this forum is for cavaliers and sunfires so not too many people here would be able to help you.

OP: That looks like a good size turbo for 200hp, not sure if you are set on the turbo but gm had a supercharger kit for 00-02 Z24s and I though with some work, it can be used on older Z24s. Not sure if that interests you but it should be able to meet your power goals and will be less fab work. Bolt on supercharger and figure out tuning. Vs fabing a manifold and downpipe, cutting/welding charge pipes. running oil lines, dealing with 2.4L oil pump issues. Sometimes you can find a used supercharger kit in the classifieds here...
