Ecotec supercharger

Just figured I would post some information I found in the Pontiac Perfomance magazine I got in the mail. It says in a couple of months that the new Ecotec 2.2L Supercharger Kit based on the Eaton M62 helical roots-type blower will be available, serving up 11 pounds of boost resulting in a "robust" 175 horsepower at 5600 rpms. It doesn't say anything about the price, but it says go to gmgoodwrench for the latest info, which I found nothing there. I'm a little disappointed about the power output compared to RSM's but oh well.

Makes complete no sense . . . the 2.oL SS Cobalt Makes 205 out of a 2.0L . . . I think those numbers are off big time . . . .

maybe its an extra 175 hp, how much would be a avg gain with 11 psi of boost?

Re: Ecotec supercharger

I think this may be simply advertised this way, so it won't scare sales away from the Cobalt SS.

The general public will believe the numbers, and really know no better.

Around 4hp per psi, makes absolutely no sense.

lol MUFF id shut up if i where you your gonna end up blowing your sh!t up anyways with lack of fuel mods sense you dont like to listen to people on here so 175hp is more then you will have with a dead engine

besides that old info and its impossible to be correct

Yea, I would have to agree it makes no sense at all for pushing 11psi's of boost. But I will consider buying one after seeing the price......

maybe the charger will only run 4-6psi to kep things safe

th 175HP seems right, they added 40HP to the LD9, 35HP seems about the same area. Id imagine you wont see more than 180HP on it. Also i think the PSI is only gonna be like 4-5 PSI. But its the M62, so you can run alot more PSI on that with less heat. So as long as the information is incorrect, it might have a ton of potential when it comes to modding. But if its 11 PSI and really 175HP, nvm that. Maybe the engine knocks really bad and they have to retard timing a crap load.

Wow, people have been waiting for this? Now turbo is looking a lot better, I hope those numbers are off, I would expect about what the SS is putting out.

the compression ratio on the ecotec is high for an s/c

thats also most likely w/ stock components everywhere
just the s/c added

i doubts its at 11psi also
the lsj is at 12

And keep in mind GM loves to under-rate their engine specs...

Why buy a Cobalt for 20,000 when you can get a 2.2 Eco for under ten and slap 3000 worth of SC on it and be faster?

That'd be dumb to advertise it like that

Muff's got fuel mods, jeez. 310cc injectors with the SAFC to tune it out at idle, just let it go pig rich once its out of idle. Also has the FPR if he needs to get any more fuel out of it. It's more than enought for his 6 psi or so.

O noes!

you have no clue about fuel mods do you

he doesnt have an fmu to increase presure along with boost, a safc can not see boost there for its imposible to tune for boost with it unless your ecu can already compinsate for the extra pressure

he has 2/3's what he needs to run correctly

you need 3 out of 3 to run it right other wise 500 miles down the road BOOOM

may be they mean to the wheel instead of the crank.
Re: Ecotec supercharger

ya whp would put it around 201 hp @ the crank if it was 175 @ the tires. couple other cheap mods and easily into 200@ the tire i bet. Wasn't it supposed to come out last winter? LOL

sooo ughh this is deffintly going to come out???

this is going to make the decision on if im buying a new cav w/ an eco or something else

and 11psi??? i dont think so.....how is that done on stock internals?

i think it will be very similar to the LD9 s/c GM makes, probably 4-5 lbs of boost and around 175-180hp which is probably mid-high 14's

Re: Ecotec supercharger
Sunday, April 17, 2005 7:32 PM
its never coming out and if it does dont expect more than 6psi

well for the most part cavy's are worthless once they have over 50k on them and I would have to agree after reading alot of the responses and questions on here that alot ppl that mod them are retarded but not all
