i get mine A/C delco syncromesh from Bensons Autoparts xtra $10per Litre
you only need 2 so don't be cheap, respect the tranny or it will puke.
i am not saying that if you put other fluid in it will, and i have heard numerous storys of them running fine. but for the cost you the right stuff

you can get it at autozone. pennzoil makes it. synchromesh is your only option for the isuzu tranny, the getrag uses atf.

is Autozone the only place to get it?
I went to Advanced, Walmart and a few local shops and everyone says they stopped making it, and the dealer was the only place that I could get it.

I see you have a 98. You can get the penzoil syncromesh as well but not all autozone stores carry it.

One think I found out back in the day. A 91 2.2 Cav uses the same transmission as the 95-99 2.2/2200 Cav. In 91 it says to use 5w30 motor oil. In 95+ it says to use GM syncromesh. I have no idea if this is related to GM's ongoing ploy to overcharge you for normal @!#$, or if it has something to do that GM used cheaper less quality parts in the 95+ transmissions.

But i'm using 5w30 on my tranny. Even with the 3400 on it. Anyone can say it's stupid if they want, but I haven't had any tranny problems so far. And when I do, I doubt it'll be because of not having the proper oil in it.

I went with 5w30 because of 1) Availability and 2) Price and 3) It was apparently ok to use before they had GM syncromesh

its not. 91-99 2.2 use syncromesh .

thats what it calls for, so use it. unless you think you can out think what GM has tested.

syncromesh has been around sense 89.

When I asked at a GM dealer near me, I was told GM fluid is about $15 per quart. I've used Royal Purple ($10/quart) and Pennzoil ($7/quart), and found the Pennzoil to work better than the RP (!). I haven't used the GM stuff because of the cost.
BTW, this is in a '99 Z24 with the isuzu transmission.

The isuzu tranny does not come with ATF, it comes with syncromesh. The getrag tranny's 00+ 5 speeds come with ATF from the factory.
