Cost to mount and balance????
Monday, May 02, 2005 1:51 PM
OK, i just bought a set of BSA 220 18x 7.5 40mm offset and some Nexen 225/40/ZR18 tires...... We really only have one custom rim shop here in this town, and when i cruized by to get a quote on mounting and balancing, he said 18 a pop plus valve stems. If i remember right, when i had my tires put on my grand am, granted they were stock wheels, stock tires, they were only like 4 bux a pop in a smaller town that this.

I know this is the place i more than likely need to get em done at because of their experience, but does this sound like im gettin hosed??? thats over 70 bux just for the 30 min it takes em to put freakin tires on! plus valve stems, which im sure would bring it up to around 80 or so.

18 a pop should include road hazard insurance, check on that its like an additional 9 bucks. Otherwise I got mine done for 40 without it.

i guess i should have asked what all that included.... im not paying for road hazard when im moving in 2 weeks.

What does anyone think about having sears or walmart mount slim tires on 18"s? Dumb question or are they capable enough?

So i am doing my homework.... going down the yellow pages listings and calling and getting quotes...... for $hits and grins, i call the people that quoted me $18 a tire, she says, please hold.... breif seconds go by and she pops back on and tells me $10 a tire!!!!!! So my curiosity got the better of me and i said, i just came in there a couple days ago and got a quote of $18 a tire, is there some reason why i got misquoted? She was like, well i dunno, but when you come in, you can talk to Chon Gomez, he is the one that just quoted the mounting for me. So i was like SWEET!!!! Goes from most expensive quote to the cheapest, and it was just a matter of talking to someone else!

and yet another update...... i take my a$$ down there and try and find Chon Gomez and i see the dood that quoted me $18. He comes up and says, did u bring em? I said yea but i was looking for Chon. He says he is out right now but he would take care of me. I waited to see what he was going to say, he opened the box up and complimented me and said, "Lets get em on!" I said that Chon had quoted me 10 a wheel and he was like, well Chon didnt know what you had, I was like, i gave them the tire size, even said that i had been quoted 18, are you saying that yall dont stand by quotes? He said, sorry, but he has to pay for it if his guys scratch it up. So i calmly stated, I guess yall have too many customers then, shut my tailgate and hopped in the truck and burnt off.

I then call discount tire, because, they too, quoted me 10 a tire. Told the guy i had gotten a quote a while ago and wondered if they would stand by it. He said yes, so it was all good, 40 bux out the door, stems and all!!!!!! I have posted pics on another thread in this subject..... go check em out.

must be nice

to do it around here its 60-80 for all four. no road hazzard warranty. comes w/ lifetime balancing though. but i dont need that.

this is why having a mechanic for a brother helps.....
