18" tire sizes
Thursday, May 12, 2005 5:18 PM
Anyone have pics of 225 40 18 tires on an 8" wide rim? my rims came with 245 40 18 tires and the width looks like perfect size for rim.. any smaller i think it would look weird.

Also considering buying 245 35 18 tires, they seem to match up to stock diameter even better than 225 40s.. my 245 40s didnt rub so 245 35s shouldnt either.. is there anything im missing? or will 245 35 tires work fine?

Thanks!

Use the tire calculator in the main library to figure out your question. I'm pretty sure 225/40/18 is the proper size for 18's.

Looks like he's well aware of what sizes he SHOULD be running but is wondering if this one will fit.

It's all going to come down to offset and ride height. The tires are obviously way too wide so if you've got a low offset and your suspension travel allows contact, they're going to get cut up on your fenders. If you have a higher offset, you're going to hit your suspension components or the inside fender in the front when you turn.

You're really going to have to work this one out yourself. Your best bet would be to go with some 225/40/18's though and save the trouble.

Thanks WW.. you're the only one who seemed to understand my question lol. I'm already running 245 40 18 tires and haven't rubbed once.. was just wondering how 245 35 18s would work out if anyone knows from experience etc... 245 35 18s match up to stock height better than 225 40 18s do and close to if not the same amount of sidewall.

Thought it might be nice and possibly different to go with wider tires that don't throw off speedo etc... but i think i already talked myself into 225s, guess i'll have to decide on my own.

On a side note.. I only need 2 tires.. if i buy 225 40s would i be able to run them on the front and put 2 of my 245 40s on the back? is that a bad idea? I'm not sure if there's anything wrong with safety etc.?

I know my cars not rwd and could possible look stupid but still i'd rather not buy 4 new tires.
