roll fenders or not?
Wednesday, February 26, 2014 10:11 PM
This is my first thread and am severely lost. I have a 03 cavi and just purchased some 17s to go on them. I am also buying tokico HP blues w/ lowering springs. I'm just wondering if it will fit without rubbing when I drop it.
P.s. the tire size is 225/50/R17.

Depends on the drop and offset of the wheels.

Need to know offset and wheel width and also what size of drop?
willtheyfit On this site, you can play around to see what will fit, dont pay attention to the suspension in the picture, just factor it off your stock wheel and tire set up. On here I put my oversized winter tires (because they are bigger than my stock sized 16s) My tires have less than 1/4" in most areas but do not rub at all. I am also lowered on sportlines.
I think the tires are too tall, a 225/45/17 would be a better tire and should fit with almost any offset, most offsets seem to be around 35-42? I believe the stock offset on the 14 steels and 16" wheels are 42. But yeah comparing them to my winter tires, I believe the rear will be okay with 35-42 offset but front will probably need a 38 offset so the tire doesn't rub on the strut perch, but will 38 it will rub when turning, I even think with 42, it will rub. They may fit with the right offset but it will be very very close, easiest solution will be sell the 225/50s and buy 225/45s

If you already have them, you can try mounting them, nothing to lose at this point but I don't think they will work.

Its a 1.4 drop all the way around. And they're a 40 offset I believe.

And a 7.5 wide wheel.

no need to roll.

But will they fit with the drop?

Yeah you wont need to roll, where you might rub will be the front spring perch and the wheel well when turning, rolling fenders are for guys running 245s or similar.
willtheyfit < this is comparing your wheels/tires to my winters, I got 1/4" on the inside corner of the tire hitting front spring perch and 1/4" on outside corner of the tire hitting the wheel well. Your tires are a hair smaller than mine but a bit wider. I think they will rub but it will be too close to say over internet. If they did rub, it may be very minor rubbing.

This guy will be 2mm closer to spring perch so you will have an extra 2mm from spring perch

This one isn't really much help but an extra opinion

There's probably a 99% chance they will rub but too close to say for sure. you either have to mount them and see what happens or buy 225/45s and sell the 225/50....

lol definitely no need to roll with that. 225/50/R17 should have gone 225/45/17s though

So are the 225/45s better than the 215/45s? Or vise versa?

225/45 are almost exact same height as factory tires, 215/45 are shorter ane 225/50 too tall. 215/45 would work but speedo be off a little and bigger wheel gap.

Hey rick. The 17s I bought lug pattern is slightly to big. What 15s and tires will fit?

Maybe it's a 5x114.3 bolt pattern? The cavalier is a 5x100 bolt pattern, these are both the 2 most common 5 bolt patterns so finding wheels shouldn't be to hard. The common tire size for 15s is 195/65/15. Although some guys have run 205/60/15 i think. But 195/65 is what comes on stock js with 15s.
There's a good tire size calculator on this site to help compare different tires.
