another cavy/sunfire dash swap :O
Tuesday, February 23, 2010 11:49 AM
hi i have been cruising old threads for a while now and i just want clarification before i make any moves on this swap on my 2000 cavalier z24,i want to swap in a 03+sunfire top pad, i have read that 95-05 top dash pad is the same for all makes and models and will fit but the 03+sunfires tops have round vents, and the lower dash/radio/HVAC is the same from 00-05 sunfires and cavys, but the 03+sunfire door panels are molded at the corner for the stick out, i have also read that the lower dash of the sunfire flares out more to meet with the bottom of the door panel. I seem to be gettin mixed messages and i want to know exactly what i need to do it, so from what i have wrote down i need the top dash, lower dash, door panels, do i need the metal frame? since mine is a 2000, vents?, i know the cluster wont fit without some modifying the cluster area. Another ? i have is what quarter panel trim fits what years, i am changing my interior from tan to charcoal grey and all the back panels and seat belts look like they will work. thanks for any direct info/pics or links you can provide as i want to make this a 1 day swap

almost all years rear 1/4 panels are interchangeable.

I believe 03+ are different from the rest.

You will need the dash frame, lower dash, radio bezel, dash pad, and door panels.

Thats it, and be ready there are ALOT more screw to keep track of in the fire dash.

well thank you for the speedy replies, is there a difference on how the sunfire panel mounts compared the cavalier?i am wondering if i need the metal door brackets and such? and will my cavalier airbag work in the sunfire dash due to mounting differences? thanks for any more info

You're going to have to take off the metal handle tab for the cav doors and replace it with the ones from the fire.

As for the airbag your fine.

The ducting would be a good idea to grab, what do you mean main housing?

oh ok so i have to remove that from mine in lieu of the sunfire one correct? when i pulled all the dash out the housing was left behind, will my HVAC work from my cavy in there?or will i need to replace it with all the lines and such from the sunfire?

Wait we arent the same page with this one.

Here is exactly what you will need

dash frame

lower dash w/ side panels

radio bezel

hvac ducting

dash pad

door panels

arm rest brackets.

Everything else is interchangeable between cav and fire

sorry about the laughing face thought it was a smiley hahah, anyways i was wondering if the 2000 cavy cluster is the same shape as the 03 sunfire cluster? or am i going to have to modify it? i was reading 00-05 were the same style of clusters.

so i can use a sunfire cluster? i like where the tach is located on those ones better, and the mileage is stored in the BCM not the cluster itself?

well i went to my local pick n pull and got EVERYTHING for the dash for $47.99 . i put it back together when i went to pay and since it was a entire assembly only 1 charge. any ways i got the door panels and brackets, rear quarters trim, all seatbelts, all the a pillar and the door jamb panels, and the dash/cluster for $135 CDN , i think i got an amazing deal cuz everything is MINT. well ill post pics in a few days when i finish cleaning and installing everything

Good deal but those rear panels will end up blocking your 1/4 windows.

i got the panels for the 1/4 from a 97

The problem will be cavs and fires have different shaped 1/4 windows.

See what Im talking about, but even still you dont need to swap the 1/4's so you would be fine sticking with what you got.

It's just a single wire to the actuator from what I remember, dont remember if its + or - tho I wanna say a negative trigger but test with a multi meter to be sure.

Can the door panels from a sunfire be used on an 05 cavy without anything else being changed? I love the look of the fire door panels!

Also: Do they have 4 door fires if the original question will work?
