nope, waiting to buy a sunfire clockspring for the extra wires in order to hook up the radio controls... its $200

then I need to buy the interface for my headunit which is another $150 so I can hook it all up.

i'll update when I get there trust me.

are the g5 steering wheels the same as the cobalt ones? would be nice to have a newer wheel with a pontiac logo on it.

g5, solstice, sky, cobalt, corvette steering wheels are all pretty much identical.

honestly, the only part with a logo on it is the airbag tho. you could buy a corvette wheel and use a solstice/g5 airbag and its all the same crap just with a pontiac logo

if this cobalt thing works out I will be selling it.

Although not cheap due to the rarity.

I know not cheap. Just pm me if ya want to sell it and I will. Easy as that. It is a guarantee sell too, lol. Although I am not really interested in the airbag though... if ya have it,.. but maybe.

quick update

I received the new clockspring and SWI-JACK from PAC. I'm pretty sure I have the wiring figured out, but unfortunately I cannot get the steering wheel off the splines of the column.

I ordered the legs needed to remove the wheel (the cobalt wheel doesn't have threaded holes like most gm steering wheels). Once they show up and I can swap the clockspring out for the sunfire one, I will be able to hook up the SWI-JACK and see if it works the way I'm hoping it will.

post a video if it works. That would be sweet if it does.

I'm guessing the nut finally got the wheel to seat fully on the splines. The last few times it was pretty easy to pull the wheel off by hand, but definitely need a puller this time.

DaFlyinSkwirl (Pj) v2.0,
I'm just seeing this... and only because it was on the Recent Post section on the JBO's page.

But this post can maybe help you on install the radio controls.

Good luck, hope everything goes as plan. Keep us updated too.

one step ahead of you man! I've actually checked that thread more than once already, and don't worry I'll be posting up about it and putting a link in that thread to the one about the SWI-JACK when I get it working.

debating starting a seperate thread about the radio control section to make it easier to find.

the cobalt steering wheel puller legs should be here friday

here's the pinout for the cobalt SWC

the horn twist-lock connector is going to be your power source for the steering wheel. this needs to be tied into the red harness thats built into the wheel (for the horn obviously) and also needs to be connected to the WHITE/ black wire that is the 12V reference for the cobalt controls.

-C (pink) not used, left switch
-D (grey) not used, left switch
-E (D-blu) this gets connected to the PAC SWI-JACK or similar SWC interface
-F (white/black) gets connected to the 12V power connector for the horn
-G (grey) this is connected to park lamp supply voltage (illumination for the switches.. does not have to be hooked up)
-H (dk grn/ white) not used, left switch
-J (tan) not used, horn connector (removed when re-wiring power source)
-K (black/white) gets connected to ground source on the steering wheel

comparison of the airbag connectors. the older style is on the left, the newer style is on the right.

to make your life easy, pop the yellow top off and grind it down with a dremel or a file. I already tried swapping the yellow tops between the connectors, but they are keyed so that doesn't work, you need to grind it down to fit.

there is one issue with the sunfire clockspring.

stock clockspring:

sunfire clockspring:

as you can see, the hole for the steering wheel power puts the wires in a position where it will NOT clear the cobalt steering wheel. There is not enough of a leg there to cut away in order to clear the wires from the sunfire clockspring, so I decided to drill a new hole in the clockspring in order to position the wires in a place where it would fit through the wheel.

the clockspring has about 7 turns from lock to lock, and our steering wheel only goes about 3.5, so turning the clockspring the little bit needed (about 45 degrees) will not hurt the function of the clockspring.

herre it is installed after drilling the hole.

demo:

I'm going to post the wiring diagram and parts list a bit later tonight.

Looks a hell of alot better then it did last night.

Good job PJ.

Want hub spacers rear disk brackets or trailing arm bushings? Shoot me a PM.

Now I want to see the corvette steering wheel with paddles shifters hooked up to the automatic, lol. Good job.
