So is it just plug in and play or what? no wireing involved just a standard plug of some sort? Also is the odometer in the cluster or on the car?

yes. They wire all the cars the same. However you will @!#$ up your milage which will result in a lower resale value and could cause complications.

Alright, looks like I need to clear this up again

Swapping clusters...

If you want to put a cluster with a factory tach in:

1996-1997, and 1998 mechanical odometer
Use any cluster from 1996 to 1998 with a mechanical odometer. Simply open up the back of the old cluster, take out the tumblers (don't try to change the mileage, the tumblers will break), and put it in the new cluster, very easy. Cavalier clusters can be exchanged with cavalier clusters only, sunfire clusters have different plugs, and different wiring diagrams (more wires on a sunfire cluster for some reason). They are also a different shape. Same goes with sunfires, only from other sunfires. See the interior FAQ for resetting the Passlock theft system.

1998 - 1999 digital odometer
Use any cluster from 1998 to 1999, but the cluster must be sent out to be calibrated to your correct mileage ($$$$). No, the mileage is not stored on the ECU in those years, its stored in the cluster itself.

2000-2005
Use any cluster from your choice of cavalier or sunfire from 2000 to 2005. Plug and play. The correct mileage will show up. Cluster will buzz when you put it in the first time, this is normal. No need to reprogram the theft lock, just plug it in and go.

This may be a problem, she has a 1995 2.2 coupe 5 speed. Please tell me we can still swap in the cluster.

I'm pretty sure you can, 95 is a bit of a wierd year which is why I left it out. 95 is OBD-1, and most of 96 on is OBD-2.
