if it is secured correctly, there should be no problem(fyi- the cover shoots into the windshield, not towards the passenger)

buy some diamond plate, get a plama cutter, and do it urself. Make sure its thin plate. U wanna make sure it conforms to the dash and looks smooth.

Eazy, im well aware, from being in an accident myself and having the bags deploy...... however, i think that diamond plate might infact puncture the windshield upon deployment and cause glass to go everywhere..... just not something i'de like to chance..... and his airbags are already deployed, so we dont have to worry to much about the deployment, but now worry about banging your head and face off a piece of metal, as opposed to a peice of plastic...... its just not for me, and i could imagine there being liability issues with whoever installs it, not to mention a blinding glare from the sun reflecting

the cover is going to break the glass regardless of what its made out of. i totalled my old Z24 and the stock plastic cover cracked the windsheild in half. the glass on the windsheild is designed to break safely. it doesnt really matter which kinda of air bag cover breaks into it, it'll break the same way.

adam is correct, even if u never put anything on top of it, the plastic panel would still break the glass, and the glass is made not to shatter. so no worry about glass. as far as your head, with no airbag, unless you bigger then 6'6 you head will never make it close enough to hit the airbag, your going to hit the glass or the front of the dash, not the dash pad. if your head is hitting the dashpad id be do to not wearing a seatbelt, and chances are you'd be in the process of going thru the window at the time so dont think you'd be caring what is covering the piece up as u fly thru the window.

as for insurance pourpuses u are right though. if insurance finds out , wich chances are pretty good that they would in an accident, theres a good chance they could deny any medical claims. or possibly any claims at all. since i'm sure there is some fine print on your insurance stating your insurance is void, if you modify the saftey equipment of your car.

what the hell is with you guys and diamondplate airbag covers? theyre built a certain way because thats the way they save your face from splattering all over the interstate. i would paint over it, but never actually mess with it. i dont want little diamond plate marks on my forehead

well considering when the thing opens up for the airbag to come out its facing towards the window, not the passenger, you're face would hit the airbag, not the diamond plate, and you wouldnt have any imprints on your face except a nice red rash from the bag.
