Dome light from white to colored
Tuesday, March 29, 2005 9:58 AM
I was wondering if it would be better to simply buy a small bulb cover for my dome light to make my interior blue when the dome comes on or just buy a new bulb that has something like paint or whatever on it.

Also, where in the world would I buy a cover or a light bulb for this? I have searched all over. My 03 cavy domelight is a 904, but everywhere I have looked does not offer colored 904. thanks

probally better off with the cover. you can get them at any decent sized auto part store. I have found out 1st hand that colored done lights just make the interior to dark

I made an insert out of red mylar in the shape of the dome light cover. Mylar is the stuff they use to colour stage lights and stuff.

Worked out perfectly. The light looks stock but when it turns on it's completely red and I can remove it at any time.

where did you get your mylar from. I imagine the local big chain hardware store sells it?

A cover over the light its self will make it much dimmer, and make it get warmer, faster. The mylar inside the dome light area is a good idea. I'd do that.

The colored bulbs aren't all they're cracked up to be, wither, they tend to be wimpy... The red ones look pink, the blue ones look teal, etc etc... If you do replace the bulb Id use LED replacements.

The lightbulbs from "Noma Moonrays" outdoor landscape lighting plug right in. A variety of colours are available. I put a blue one in there about 3 years ago and it still hasent burnt out. Hit up your local hardware store.

I used lighting gels that's used for stage lighting behind the dome light & knobs. It's a mylar kinda thing. There is a company near me that rents out stage equipment & had rolls of it to purchase.

My interior blue light looks really nice when its on. The problem is, it does make the interior dark. Makes for a pain in the ass when you are trying to read something in the car at night, lol
