R.I.P. Skwirl
Saturday, August 03, 2013 4:27 AM
today was the beginning of the end.

I stripped the coilovers off the car, as well as the addco front sway bar

buyer is picking up the coilovers later today.
front bumper/ headlights are already called for.

as I went to put the car back into it's normal spot, the wheel bearing on the passenger side exploded in one final act of disobedience.

someone is interested in saving her.
but if not, the remainder is most likely going to the junkyard.

years of neglect have taken their toll.

I did not have a place to properly leave the car until I managed to finish it.
Rust has taken a hold in the area I modified (butchered) for the fuel cell.
it's slowly slipped in to decay over the years.

her soul lives on in HavBlue (literally... 90% of HavBlue's drivetrain came from the skwirl, as well as the brakes and the instrument cluster and the wheels)

it's time to put my friend out of her misery and let her go.
she taught me a lot, we had a lot of good times and great memories together

but all things must eventually come to an end.

Would you be willing to sell the shifter and cables?

I should also add in that while I am sad to see this car go I certainly understand moving on. HavBlue will be a fun daily once you get it where you want it and whatever projects come in the future will be epic I am sure.

Sad to see this car go.. But I totally understand why.. This car is honestly the inspiration behind my car. Still amazes me how quick this car was N/A. Now get HavBlue finished!!

Sad to see it go but as said the end of an era and I can understand wanting to let the car retire with some dignity left. I know what it's like to sea a project rot away cause you no longer have time for it. She served you well.

The Skwirl was the first J I ever saw on YouTube and it gave me hope that my car had potential.

I have a lot of respect for this car and what you did with it PJ. Best of luck with what you have planned for HaveBlue. With one end is another great beginning.

Hell, I remember when you really started pumping out some power with this car. Also, first saw it on youtube.
Rest in peace skwirl, your legacy will be carried on in HavBlue/

I remember when Skwirl made the trip from NJ up to NH bringing me an engine and other goodies. WOW that was a long time ago, lol.

As much as it is disappointing, not really surprised to see it coming.

I'm sure this was not a easy choice for you, but as you sad, most of the car is being put to good use.

I wish I had the room, a clean body ready for an eco had possibilities....

it wasn't an easy decision to make.

i have a beater right now that I'm driving around, and the thought of rebuilding the skwirl as beater status has crossed my mind....

but why have two of the same car? it makes no sense...

my beater is a sedan, so it's a bit more convenient for storing crap inside of it. so rebuilding the skwirl for a coupe would be stupid because there isn't much room in coupes....

also, it would kill me inside to demote skwirl to beater status. I'd still in my head want to protect the car at all costs.
there's something liberating about driving a car I could really care less about (my current beater). I still take care of it, but dents scratches and crap like that don't really bother me.

plus having an ecotec coupe will be too difficult to resist modifying it.
the car has absolutely no electronics

the cost of rebuilding is too high, even with all the spare parts I have laying around.

I have HavBlue.
All my other cars will be going bye bye, then the search for the new project will begin.

Did you scrap it yet?
How is the chassis?
My car is rusting, I wouldn't mind a cleaner shell.
I can swap it all over winter.

Let me know.

Damn, it sucks that I missed out on the coilovers. That deal was amazing! But it just shows further proof that I need to quit spending money on the Pearl and head in another direction myself... Something of the AWD variety. It's always sad to see a legend die, but then again, it can't be a true legend until it's dead. So rest in pieces, Skwirly.

Man all the memories, it is sad to see her go but her soul lives on. I watched this car from the beginning cause it was like my twin back in the 2200 days. Good luck with everything PJ.
