Tinks 2015 build. Boring title, not a boring thread.
Sunday, April 19, 2015 2:09 AM
Well the time has finally come. I pulled my spare L61 apart in preparation to send it away this weekend to get the short block assembled.

Turns out #1 rod bearing thought it was in a LD9 and ate itself.

But that is ok because this is where the stock crap belongs.

Almost there.

Ready to go for a trip.

The planned specs:
Ductile iron sleeves
Eagle forged L61 crank
Eagle forged L61 rods
Wiseco forged 10:1cr L61 pistons
Balance shaft delete
GMPP oil pump gears

I also ordered a LSJ headgasket, Golden Eagle headstuds, and ZZP Stage 2 LSJ cams.

Jeff Reiland is doing the work on the short block. I don't know who is going to be doing the head work yet.

Jeff seems like a good guy the few times I have talked to him.

The cams, head studs, and head gasket arrived. I also met up with Reiland and dropped the block and goodies off with him on Thursday. I know having someone else put it together for me is going run be some coin, but I am happy with paying the price he is asking. To me it is very reasonable.

The short block is still out and I have been spending the money that could have been used on the cylinder head on mods for my new DD. The day I pulled the L61 apart I killed one of the Hankooks that I replaced last year. A replacement should be arriving any day now then I just have to roll the toyo fenders and I can be driving it again.

The short block is still out being assembled, but after alittle bit of a headache I finally got a new Hankook V12 on the car(they "updated" tire to the k120 and discontinued the k110) and I did alittle roll to the toyos to hopefully prevent killing another tire. The updates for the car have stalled, but atleast I got it back on the road again and can enjoy it in its current form. Here look at some pics.

Just had these sent to me.

The short block is done, but I still have to make time to go out and get it. After that it is time to get the head done.

just out of curiosity what did he charge to sleeve it?

He quoted me $800 for the work done on the block, that includes the cost of the sleeves.

On Friday my roommate and I made the ~5 hour(one way) trip to PIttsburg, PA pick up the short block. I really didn't mid the trip since we used the trip home to visit my little brother who lives out there and also visit one of our high school friends, plus there was also the fact that we had a fully built L61 in the back of the SUV.

My buddy who we stopped and visited told me that he really wants to put Megasquirt on SOMETHING. So I said that I have a Cavalier that would love to have Megasquirt on it. We'll see what happens with that.

I probably wont be able to send the head out for at least another month(bills come 1st).

Ryan, I bet a black Cavalier would look pretty good up on the lift you have access too...

Agreed. I know it would be hard for us to do, but we would HAVE to start up the camaro and move it out of the way. The struggle is real.

A bit of an update. I have found a place to CNC port my LK9 head and I do have the spare cash ATM to have it done. BUT I might be buying a house, so I would rather not spend the money until I know what is going on with the house.

On the MS front. It looks good. My buddy is researching it and it might happen over the winter, depending on how the house situation goes.

Last thing. I picked up a uncracked charcoal 2000+ dash for the vert.
