So went to the drag strip today... I'm not much of a drag racing person but it was free becasue of opening weekend, pay to spectate ($12) and race for free. So I figure what the hell. It rained alot yesterday and there was a chance of rain today so I figure alright I'll get there early make sure I can get a couple runs in before the weather goes to @!#$. Well I end up there about an 45 minuets before opening so I'm thinking sweet I'll get a bunch of laps in before it gets busy, I was 2nd in line. So time goes by and the line gets longer, by this point I'm up there talking with one of my buddies and this orangish looking GTI pulls up, I only saw it from far but I said to my buddy that thing is gonna blow up today hahah. so We kill some time and gates open we go in. No racing though, they spend an hour drying and preping the track so by the time its time to race there are plenty of people there.
Well I'm still right up front so I grab a lane and wait till they start. I'm sitting there in my car listening to the kid with brand new Mustang GT and his friends @!#$ talk every car there... the SRT 4 because of its wing, asking eachother why would somone even show up in XXXXX car to drag race, etc.. the usual hahaha.

I beat him off the line, my 60 foot was .2 better then his, and he never caught up, in fact he couldn't even keep up.

On my way back up the track I'm driving behind the VW and hes sitting there giving me the evil eye through his mirror, he look all pissy about losing in front of his friend (who rode with him) to a cavalier hahahah. But on the return road a couple rain drops on the windshield but i go get back in line which is still pretty short at this time. They stop for about 15-20 minuets for a rain delay. After that I get my second run...
My second run was against a Mercury Marauder? I think, or something else that looked like one hahah, crown vic, marauder, whatever it sounded mean had some nice beefy tires. He killed me off the line but the entire way down the track I was slowly but surely realing him in. He ran a 14.2 I ran a 7.5.

that pissed me off, it didn't read the 1/4 mile time right and gave no speed which sucks because that was easily the fastest run the GTC had ever done, by the 1000" mark I was already a couple tenths ahead of last run, and the speedo was reading up in the 97ish mph range when I crossed the line. That should have gotten knocking on the door if not into 14's
I get back in line again, I made it up to be the next car in the staging lane...... and guess what happened, the orange GTI I was tlaking about earlier.... @!#$ car grenades at the line and they had to push it off the track LMAO. I totally called this @!#$ LOL. Anyways they gte him off the track they start cleaning up and boom skys open up and it starts raining heavily for a while. We all decieded screw it it was busy, this would be a long rain delay and the track is only open 4 hours with 200 + cars there already and more waiting to get teched in hahah. So we left and we all went out for lunch at Culvers.
It was fun, I had a good time, only geting 2 runs kinda sucked, geting scamed out of my best run definetly sucked. But the GTI craping out made me happy hahaha
good runs man. dont you work at a VW dealership? it would be funny if you had to fix that GTI. btw, were these runs with the rota boosts?
yes I work for VW, which is why I was predicting that car to blow up hahaha, the diffs on the 6 speeds tend to end up on the outside of the car when you mix a sticky tire launch and a decent amount of power hahah
I don't knwo what broke but it broke something.
The runs were made on stock steelies... 14" 195 Good year conquest tires. The Rotas w/ Neo Gens are considerable wider and heavier, they have a ton of traction but the car is noticably slower with them on, its a great setup for auto X, not to so good for drag racing.
Auto X starts in about 2 weeks and since I have to replace all 4 strut mounts that means I have to align the car which means the steelies have to go back on (not tearing up the Rotas with the alignment heads) so I had to put them back on anyone for a while so figured what the hell.
track was way to slick...... 2.4 and 2.3 60's for me

looks like it was a good time, i was givin tom crap about his 60's lol, i was just messin with ya man, with that kinda drizzling and rain before you know the track is gonna have some traction issues

I was just wonder what Jake has in his car noe....if he even has the car at all...lol.
Jake and I pulled his stock motor a few years ago, and swapped in a '00 or '01 2.4 w/ secret cams. He kept his stocker laying around for the next couple years just in case something happend to his new engine with the GM S/C kit on there, but eventually sold it to Tom. The last I knew, he sold the S/C kit, but still has the cav.
He's posted up a few times recently..... in Tom's thread about my new Purple cav in P&M

Uh...16.5@83, need I say more. Too embarassed to post the slip since the last time it ran it pulled a 15.6@88.11When I got back I detuned the car since I must have did something wrong. After that I redid it...Engine and Trans Troque removed, PE Enrighment put to 0...saddly, I can't tell any differnece.
so heres the best part about the VW beraking.... I work for VW, I'm a tech... one of our oil change guys came with up to the track, the VW ended up breaking an axle when he tried to launch, the dude form work goes up to this guy in the GTI when he standing in the pits looking at his broke ass car and gives him a thing of coupons for our VW dealership LOL. Maybe its just me ubt if I just boke my car and some random @!#$ came up and gave me cupons towards getting it fixed I'd prolly hit him in the face hahaha.
well............... it is a VW.............
