The dirt track i race on you're allowed to race basically anything with 4 wheels and a motor as long as at one time it was a car, truck, van, etc.
I wrote off my Cavalier last month so i moved onto the V8 class since my buddy had this old Dakota sitting in his backyard, 1993 Dakota, rear wheel drive, 5.2L V8 (318), hauls ass... needs some handling improvements though... surprisingly solid for what it is, got it for cheap due he put it in the woods and smashed it up a bit.

When you t-bone a hyundai, get hooked to the side of it, and it pulls you off the track lol.

Truck needs front shocks desperately and to put my sway bar back on... has a modified rear cross member going up through the bed with rough country shocks so the arse ends nice and stiff.

Some great looking cars here. This is the chumpcar, had it's first run at Road America last weekend.

Overall, how did the J platform do in chump racing? A group of local guys here were planning a chump entry, but we didn't get around to it this year. Mostly because we couldn't decide on a car.

Not bad, there is always room for improvement on any platform, and this was our first race in this car. We found that the brakes were a big weak spot, especially at RA with the three long straights. We burned through a set of EBC Yellows in a matter of hours. We are still running the rear drums and the fronts seem to be doing all the work.

Car died about an hour into my stint and took as a while to determine that the ignition cut for the kill switch had pulled loose, so completely my fault (my wiring job). I ran good oil in it and engine wise it ran great. Trans started popping out of third and now is difficult to get into third and fourth, so it's probably done.

There is a veteran team that runs a J body under the team name Cavette Racing. Those guys have their car pretty dialed in and ran a 2:55. Sixth fastest time of the race in a field which was 90+ cars, the majority of which are either Hondas or BMWs.

We could jump on the Honda/BMW bandwagon too, but I would much rather beat those guys with a Cavalier!

If you need any help with your AIV, let me know.

Absolutely awesome! I've been wanted to get into chumpcar and have thought a cavalier would be excellent, especially now that the ecotec cavy's are becoming cheap enough to be used!

Details on the car please!

2.2 L Ecotec, P&P Head, Stage 3 Comp Cams, Supertech 76 lb Spring kit, Supertech Oversized Valves, Wiseco 8.9:1 CR Pistons, Eagle H-Beam Rods, Home-Built Turbo Kit T3/T4 57 Trim Intercooled, 78 lb/hr Racetronix Hi-Z injectors, Aeromotive FPR, Racetronix f body fuel pump,MEGASQUIRT MS3 + MS3X Finally street tuned on 21 lbs! Now if only I could get it to hook....

I wasted money on ebc yellow stuff pads too. NEVER AGAIN. They get hot and mushy faster than a stock pad, and that's no exaggeration. Hawk HPS pads are definitely the way to go and are a lot cheaper than ebc's junk. As for the brake bias, you'll have to get more creative to solve that issue.

The race car.

Old rear wheels, and when the drag wheels/radials were bronze....

Drag wheels next to daily driver wheels. The drag wheels are now flat black as well. Shocked how close they actually are!
