Has anyone tried to flash a 98 ECU with a 97 SD file?

Well a 99 ecu with the 97 SD did not work on mine, but it would run the 00+ M45 tune on my 99 ecu. WhiteCavy "David" is running either a 00 Ecu in his 99 wired car or a 99ecu with 00+ M45 tune.

I knew about the 99 ECU with a 00+ Gm reflash, but I'm wondering if the 97 SD file on a 98 ECU will work. Since they are both non BCM set-ups to start with.

MY 99 has no BCM. But you probably already knew that.

im tempted to see if this would work on mine, but the Alpha-n is nice and dialed in for me now.

my 97 ecu fits the criteria... its a 97 first off, has only one O2 sensor, but its an auto.

mike, was it the transmission you were having the problem with (manual SD file into an Auto) or was it more than that? would the car start and idle?

like i said, i would be interested to try this, but i dont need it. my car is not going to see boost and for an NA, alpha-n is fine.

Car wouldn't run at all. It tried to start, but wouldn't do anything. gauges kinda worked, but do not remember which ones.

Joey, Jeremy, John, and BP.....you all should have the file.
If someone doesn't receive it email me, and I'll try again.
I also have a plain 2000 auto file, and a 00+ auto supercharger file.

can I swap my speed density pcm out for a non speed density pcm without occuring any problems? I just think that it could go to someone that could use it because its just sitting in my garage.

Yes. Truly to most the important thing is having a copy of the file to use in HPT.

MD there was no attachment on the email I got from you.

I'll re-send it later tonight after work. I guess my anti virus didn't like the file name, and stripped it out of my email.

Are you poor guys still trying to get this to work?

You do realize you'll run into the same fueling issues.... right?

You'll need to fake the 2 bar... and once you get that going you'll need to add fuel above 105 kpa... and soon come to realize the VE tables are maxed at 10-20-30 % offset, whatever you set it at....

And you'll soon realize that you're in the same crap that you were in with the Alpha-N tune... VE tables maxed and no more useable offset.

No IPW vs VAC table = no adjustability in boost.

MAYBE I am wrong in this.... I'm no expert like Todd in these tuning matters.... but from my examinations of the 1997 Speed Density pcm... it won't be able to add much more fuel in boost due to this missing table. It's huge.

It's why I gave up on this, sadly. That table not being there makes it a waste of a speed density PCM.

That is what I was trying to remember when I emailed everyone the first time.
Sorry I didn't get the file out. I will by this weekend.

Just to update this, I uploaded both auto and 5-speed speed density stock tunes to the HPTuners repository.

It doesn't have the VE offset option.

I actually just bought a ECU from a 97 Cavalier Auto from eBay, and it's SD. But it doesn't have the VE offset % either

Yes the 97 SD files/ECU's do not have this.
