i need to get a paint job for my car, where's the best place to go for a decent paint job, nothing too fancy or anything, just somewhere that'll get the job done but not do a crappy job...how much would it run too??

Ya around 1200. I paid 1300 to get the kit preped installed and paint the entire car, and other little dents repaired and shaved the antenna. They did a pretty good job on everything. Its not the best but I think I got a pretty good deal. Ask a couple of shops in the area on how much they charge. Then go with one that isn't too cheap but not too expensive either. Just make sure to stay away from Maaco.

i agree with these two. 1200 sounds about right. i paid 1300 (+50 for a tip) for kit and car to be painted, shaved antenna, emblems shaved, filled stock wing holes and installed c/f wing, eyelids and fiberglass hood-cowl installed. try to see some of there current or past work, such as cars done and waiting to be picked up. also try to get some friends that maybe interested in getting work done and try to sweeten the deal with the shop. and maybe tell them youlldo the prep work to make the price lower. good luck man.

Alot of the labor is in the prep involved to get the car ready for paint. Depending how busy the shop is they may not want to do a complete paint job. They make more money doing collision repairs. If you can do all the sanding and take off parts where they just have to paint the car, it will save you some money and more shops might take the job if they just have to roll it into the booth and shoot paint on it. Some shops wont take it also if you do your own prep because there name is on someone elses work. But if you do the prep yourself if your paint peels off or something you won't be able to make the shop fix it. Prep is a very important part of the paint job. If not done well, no matter how good the painter or the booth he has to paint in will make the car look good. Normally a basecoat clearcoat paint job the same color not doing any jambs underhood, ect. start somewhere around $1500 if using a higher line of paint and go up from there. Most important is to check out the shop before you take your car to them. There are a lot of good shops, but also alot of hacks and ripoffs also. Did you ever see the story on like 20 20 where the shop takes a sledge hammer to the car and create more damage to the car before the insurance adjuster gets there to up the repair bill. Just like any occupation, you should get references before commmitting,

Nice reply! Definately do your research... and DO NOT go to Maaco! Keep in mind you get what you pay for. While there are some reputable shops that will do an awesome job for a decent price, you have to be careful. Make sure you get a guarantee also. If the shop won't guarantee their work, walk out.

Most places won't work on your car if you've done the prep work yourself, like he said, because it's someone else's work, and chances are they won't guarantee it. Good luck!! if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email.

It's up to you and the shop the method you want to take to paint your car... and depending on what you want done will also have a factor in the cost. If you want everything down to your frame painted, it's going to cost a heck of a lot more than just the outside for example. Talk to the shops you go to and ask them about what method they'd use, if you have any questions about what they said feel free to email me.

lol.....ok this is coming from a body fender tech of 10 yrs and who has painted rebuilt and built many of cars over the past 10 yrs
if some one comes and says"i don`t have allot of money" lol...then basicly you get what ya pat for
shops that i have worked for labor rates have strted at 30 to 40 an hour and paint labor is about 25 to 30
also if i get a car that the owner did all the tear down and prep work him self i still have to go over the whole car fix anything wrong with it so by you doin that will shave a small and i mean very small amount of labor off why??? i am still doin my job no matter what ya take off and prep
paint product is not a cost difference to a shop if a shop uses ppg or dupont that`s what ya gettin on your car
body kit installin will raise the price more due to it being a body kit and it will need allot of work to make it fit like a factory part
changing the color over shaving stuff off now your talkin big labor costs and a bigger bill
so my advice to you is to save your money and yes go to shop to shop and get diffferent prices don`t be afraid to ask questions we don`t bite that often lol
one more thing here is my old boss`s car that i helped build and painted
total cost is about 50,000
get my point???

can i haz bondo

My friend works at make and I got my whole car repaired...like little dents, scratches all one solid base color for $540...It was $500 until I wanted to shave my antenna

Here is whats getting done to my car.

-Custom Orange and Blue paint job
-Shaved Handles (w/ the remote popper kit)
-Shaved Antenna (w/ internal antenna)
-All Taillights Shaved (w/ Led bars)
-Custom Eyelids
-Molded dift Side Skirts (Side skirts included)
-Black Widow Wing modified to fit for a Accord (wing included)
-Windows pulled and sanded down to metal

This is all running me $3,400....So i guess its all about pricing and compareing.. But if your just doing a body kit and whole car re-painted.....do not go any higher then i would say about $2,000

Well yea you do get what you pay for. Its usually about $500 just to paint the $30-40 an hour on body word or what ever you want done. then what ever paint and every thing costs. put it like this just my paint material is $900. and that s not including paintin it and fixing dings and dent. so if i was you tell them what you want. but remember you get what you pay for. especially when buying paint so dont go cheap or you will regret it later down the road. Hope that helps.
