For those that have done tail conversions

I am planning on doing a tail conversion soon, and i have an idea of what would be the easiest way, but i want to know if anyone can give me a heads up on things too look out for or tips to make things go easier. Im not sure on what tails im going to be doing yet either so any suggestions are welcome.

Please dont say if that if i don't know this already than i shouldn't be doing it. I have the ability and tools to do it, i am just trying to make it all go smoother since i have never done this before.

if you have the tools and ability, then thats all you really need. each tail conversion will be as different with the problems as the tails themselves. when i did mine, we tried to wire the blinkers and power together and ended up frying the wires LOL. i dont know what i was thinking....but anyway we fixed it. but thats an example that im sure most other people wont have had the pleasure of doing.

I guess i should have been more clear, but thanks for the comment. I meant things like the process that was taken to do it... Did you shave the tails and then cut your own buckets out of that or did you just cut it all out of each car and then weld in the buckets from another car.

I think i might just shave them completely and throw in a set of vet tails recessed in about 2 inches.

i personally think the easiest way to go about it would be to graft part of the quarter panel from your tailight donor car to your car, that way you can take the light buckets right with it, you will probably end up reshaping the trunk, but thats easier than making all new buckets and altering the quarter panels.

i think for most conversions it would be easiest to shave the stockers and then work from there.

I am in the process of just shaving off all my stock taillights and calling it a day.....I think it looks alot better then putting in other tails...(smoooooooooth) Then poping in some L.e.d bars.

But if you are going with a totally different set of tails....i would reccomend shaving off your stockers first....so its basically like starting off with a clean sheet of paper so to speak.

Btw, i should have updated pictures of my car sometime this weekend.

I think im going to shave the lights completely and then see what i wanna do from there. Im still thinking about vette lights, but i haven't called the dealer to see how much im gonna have to go in debt for some since you don't see them at the junkers. Any more suggestions are welcome.
