Lambo Doors problems
Tuesday, March 01, 2005 9:53 AM
ive found a kit that will bolt directly onto my 2002 sunfire and it looks alright. problem is i dont think i know enough about the subject of lambo doors.

so here we go guys:

1) the sunfire has no frame essentially, so tyhe doors are a major part of its structural rigidty, by messing with the hinges like that, im gonna do some damgae to that aspect. im not autocrossing it so im not worried about that, just side impact crashes.

2) leaks could be apparent i think. anyone with experience with this?

3) is there any kind of hidden custom work required that i cant do my self with a "bolt-on kit"?

any input would help alot

i believe, but am not certain, most of the kits out are just bolt up, hidden under the fenders just behind the front part of the door. and with the number of people here that have them, i havent seen any bad press over any specific type so....should be aok

the doors really aren't that big of a structural reinforcement. that's mostly taken care of by the roof. otherwise, your car would fold in half every time you open your doors, regardless of what hinges are on it.

kits that are made specifically for j-bodies fit up very well. when installing, you might have to fine tune a couple things depending on how well you held the door in place when installnig the lambo hinges in the first place.

the most "custom work" you'll need to do is to either cut off the little metal tab on the car behind the fender or bend it flat. and that's not hard to do at all. they are a pretty simple procedure, so just take your time with it and you'll be fine.

actually the glass makes the car structually strong i mean the front and the rear glass
if installed correctly you should have no problems at all
the door should not bend or twist at all

can i haz bondo

to answer your questions!

#1...you'll be fine with a new hinge...it bolts up to the same location as the stock ones do...you use the same bolts aswell!

#2 leaks....not at all....you'll be fine

#3 just what cannon said...a very easy metal piece to cut off, and that is all pretty much, a very easy install...
