That, and you have to think about the fact our cars are unibody cars, and the roof is a major structural part of the car. Your car would practically break in half in an accident.

Correct me someone if I'm wrong, but I beleive the doors on a vert are made stronger to make up for the strength lost in the roof..I think It would look pretty nice if it's a quality job..be a fun car to have..def. get some funny looks.

The doors, and I believe the chassis too, are both reinforced on the convertibles.

This always come up, and no one ever does it. I say if you want to do it then start with a convertable, and build a roof for it, that way you ahve the structural support you need

Yea thatd be cool if you did do that. People have did it on fieros b4 and same as unibodys which i guess it is the roof is one of the main structural pieces of the car. I Like someone said you should start with a convertable and add the coupe pieces onto it Maybe you could use the top off of a del sol

convertables are built differently, the chassis is reinfored and if u look almost every convertable ways more than the "normal" car w/ a roof

I hold with taking a convertible and making a top for it. I was thinking along the lines of a Thunderbird kinda top where you could remove the hardtop/traga/t-top and put the conv. back up. But I'm not going to do that anytime soon so if anyone else wants to, go ahead.

well about it being a big parachute. you could always make some sory of vents in the rear window. and Get reverse vents on your side windows. Or make it so the widow comes off or something,... just some thoughts

its not that hard to do a custom targa or t-top at all... as long as u have another spare roof,if u have a sunroof like i did and a welder ur set....of cousre also have the common knowledge to be able to support it an make sure it doesnt leak........i just didnt have the time to finish it but have a few pics of the car with the targa top if any wants to post it here to look at,cause i cant seem to post it...all email it to who ever wants to put it up

blunts, hoes, and cars only thing left is my bed.

I know the sunroof has added support around it, but do you know where? would it be possible to have one part of the roof cut off at the door pillar? Also, does anyone know where the car is reinforced in both a convertable and sunroof versioin? Or how about any custom shops that would do it?

i was wondering if you were to install a roll cage like the ones that have a bar the goes kinda diagonal where your doors is ( hope that made sence) would that make up for the loss in strength?

to make it look good though you would have to do something about the door, cause we have that metal bar around the window. So you would have to rework that. If I can find a cheap car I might practice on that first. But like above, you would also have to add support to the door as well. Anyone on here with a picture of the inside of a convertable cavi door (with the inside panel removed) and a pic of the inside of a non convertable? I've asked around my work, and there are a couple people down here in the ER and one of the docs said he knew someone in widsor that did something like that, and then there was a tech who knew someone who had a t top put into a camero. How much different is the cameros body compared to ours? I already have some design ideas that would be pretty cool for the roof that would also at added support, as well as be compact. I can get some sketches done, but I just need some door pics first, along with other places the car is supported on the convertable. I think i'm gonna be needing to head to a dealership this weekend and find some of this info out. maybe a nice lil yard too do some work as well.
