ok so i got a 2.4 ld9 sunfire gt
not so blown but blown head gasket compression is near where it should be n/a i belive.
it read almost solid 200-210 across the motor but maybe some higher cant remember to well but it was strait
although i been lieakin oil for a hott min now and its becoming annoying but im just wingin it untill winter hits cuz my other sunfire has a real messed up exsaughst i havent gotten around to fixing. but thats whatever just a winter car.
so heres my options i just don know what to do realyi thought of going turbo route which is doable
or 3400 swap
or maybe s/c if i can find a good price
but i already have some secret cams just waiting for me to tear the head off and have been doin some looking for what els i should do while im in there but not so sure
so i just want everyones oppinions so i can see what i should takle time is not an issue and price sorta is just don wanna break the bank to bad thanks guys.
im not a bid fan of the ld9 but going to the 3400 your going to need a new trans it all depends on how much you can find the parts for if its cheap enough do the swap but i would be leaning towards fixing the ld9 the cost reasons
well thats the thing would it even be any performance superior to do 3400 or turbo 2.4 thats the thing but wither way i figured it all to be same cost wise but the catch with the swap is i could sell my motor eventualy but yea new trans isnt my fav thing
i think a 3400 is alot more reliable you can make big power from a 4 cylinder but if drops the reliability quite a bit the 3400 in my grand am has 170,000 on it and other than the intake gaskets i have had very little trouble with it try that with a turbo 4 cylinder it prolly wont happen
IDK what year your car is, your profile needs to be filled in
For reliability... I'd go with an Eco swap and put the GM supercharger on it. Good reliable power for not that much money... you know it'll work... and there's no wiring to piss around with or fabricating mounts, etc... easy as pie as far as swaps go.
I've never done the 3400 swap... but I've done the 3800, and as much fun as the power is - the wiring was a LOT of work... and some stuff still doesn't work 100%.

what about the eco wiring though
Depending on what year you're putting it in... if it's a 2000+ car, just swap the engine harness.
If it's a pre-2000 like mine... gut the donor car's wiring and swap it all into your car. Or you can get fancy and mix-and-match whatever interior options you want... my 98 Z24 now has a 2003 Eco 5 speed in it, with a 2005 Sunfire cluster and 2001 Monsoon factory radio with the 8 speakers.... sounds great, and I don't mind having a stock deck in my daily driver... gets less attention from thieves, and it sounds better than what it came with

Haha, and over on Aleromod, people wish they could ditch their 3400s for the four cylinders. It's the most unreliable engine out of the three they were made with.
I have 189,000 on my supercharged LD9.

@turboalero
i have 170,000 on mine its mostly just people that dont maintain the 3400 that makes it unreliable the lim gaskets need to be swapped for the better felpro ones ive had no problems but those gaskets well they do have a problem with cams also but im not trying to argue the ld9 is a respectable engine as well but i had a bad experience with one so its not my favorite engine
if you wanted to go for longevity the 3800 would out run both the ld9 and 3400 so for reliability swap the 3800 its alot of work but well worth it
