Ok so this is my first install its rather simple at the moment and i will build it up over time.

Sub box.
(i will add pictures when i can)
So basically with a little help i now understand pretty much whats going on and how to wire it up.
My questions are as follows.
1. Can i use speaker wire to wire the sub to the sub box and the sub box to the amp?
2. Looking at the back of the stereo i have found an exact duplicate of my remote wire i need to connect up, its the same blue colour, exact same size etc. I cannot tell for sure if it is because the last owner just cut the wiring off to disconnect there sub so the writing is visible. Does this sound as if it would be the remote wire i need, as it matches up perfect to my remote cable i have for the amp.?
Thanks in advance, sorry if its confusing please just let me know and i will attempt to explain it better.

yeah use speaker wire for your sub. as for wiring, i'd personally spin the amp around so the wiring connections face away from you, then run your wires under the carpet and across and up right behing your sub box. this way you wont see any wiring at all and it will look nice and clean. i'd also suggest something to secure the box to the car so it doesnt go falling over and slammming around as your drivings. as for the remote wire usually blue is what you want but im not positive that is right for every unit out there. you could get a multimeter and test it before you use it. or if its an aftermarket unit call or check online with the manufacturer, they should have wiring diagrams online or a phonecall could get you the same info.

usually the blue wire off the radio is for antenna, if it has a blue white wire use that one. Easy way to test it is to pop in a cd, if the sub still works your good, if the sub doesnt work when you pop in the cd then you gotta switch it
Sub is in and working
Yeh i was thinking of turning the amp around as the wiring is too visible at the moment. For securing the box would an L shape piece of metal screwed from the box to the trunk floor work? I think i've seen that done before.
Thanks for the help and using the speaker wire, i had some i found in my car when i got it so it saved me some money

Do you get air leakage between the box and the edge of the sub? A lot of subs come with a stretch of foam weather stripping material to place along the back of the sub so it makes an airtight connection with the box. Cutting about a 1 cm ring of carpet from the box around the hole would really help in creating an airtight surface with the foam. You can buy this from home depot for a few bucks. If you want to test for leaks, push in the cone of your sub for 5 seconds and let go. If it comes out instantly, youŕe ok. If it comes out slowly you have a leak in the box.

Ok i will take a look at the my sub and do the test you said to do then find out if i have any leakage or not. Hopefully i can run over to Home Depot in my lunch tomorrow and grab some L brackets and some weather stripping material if i need it.
