ok, today i was finishing up a box, and was spraying on the adhesive spray for the carpet, the subs were in the box as i had the spot for them done, i accidentally sprayed some of the adhesive spray onto the sub, on the foam area surrounding the cone, is this bad? i wiped it with a damp cloth no more than a minuate after. Im just wondering if this will eat at it, ot hurt the sub in any way? it was some old 3M "general trim adhesive" spray, any help ius appriciated, i can give you the part # for it as well if that helps. thanks in advance.

It shouldn't do any damage to the sub, but I have to ask why you wouldn't have taken the subs out, or at the very least, covered them when you were spraying.
Also, from my personal experience, the general trim adhesive is not the best thing to use. The 3M vinyl roof adhesive works much better.
alright, thanks.. had me worried for a while. do you know what i could clean it off with? i got alot of it off when i wiped it off, but theres still some left. and i wouldve taken them out, but it sucked so bad the get them in, its a bandbass box and the sides come pretty far in so you have to angle the screws, and its just insane how hard they get to turn. never thought to cover them up. Thanks, ill have to try that on my next boxes, and the other adhesive too. I also have another problem, there is air leaking from a few places where the screws are going in and i think some around the sub, know anything to get it to stop leaking? thanks again

Depending on exactly where the air is leaking, and how big the space is, silicone will do the job nicely. Just make sure it's not a large gap.
As far as what to take off the adhesive with, I'd be very careful, but goo-gone should work. The problem is that you run the risk of getting it on the adhesive that attaches the surround or the dust cover to the cone. Unless it's actually causing a problem, I'd leave it alone.
Doesnt silicone eat away at the sub though? at least thats what ive heard..

Don't put it on the sub. It would go where you have leaks. If you are leaking right around the speaker itself, a good gasket would be the best bet. That will, however, require you to take it out and reinstall it.
well, it has like plastic kind of rubberey things that go around the sub.. i guess a gasket?? but it doesnt seal all the way, would it be ok to use the silicone as long as its on the gasket like part, and doesnt touch the foam parts of the sub? I heard that its the fumes that eat away at it, not the silicone itself?

Silicone fumes do....
Dont forget some silicone will harden....gluing your sub to the box...
The best thing to use if your sub is leaking...is ummm....haha figures i knew what it was as i was scrolling down to post...
Ill explain it. Its weather stripping for doors and windows, however, its not your typical foam weather stripping. Its a Rope and made of Puddy. Comes in roles and can be bought at walmart...
Also, the best thing to use for carpet is 3M super 77
oh, i think i know what your talking about.. i think its called like rope caulk or something? would that rolled weatherstrip work too? its double sided, sticky... something along those lines? Thanks
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
haha yeah thats what it is...rope caulk...rolled weather stripping would work, but its sticky wearas the rope caulk come off easier. And its cheaper, and seals better
Alright, thanks. I hope this will sound good when its all done. Anyone have an opinion on which style to go with? I dont know what i want to go with yet. bandbass, ported, or sealed...thanks to all again
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
What is it and what are you going for?
If you want tight punchy bass, Sealed...basiclly SQ
If you want to move some air, go ported
forget bandpass for now...and Stay away from Prebuilts
If i moved more air, would it sound better? Im going for it to be loud, but sound good at the same time
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
Then go ported
No it wouldnt sound better, by moving more air i meant are you going for SPL(loudness) or SQ But just because your going to go ported doesnt mean its going to sound bad at all. Im running an 18in sub for christ sakes and it sounds beautiful in a ported box...
Now...sealed is smaller..so if your tight on space..you may want to go sealed...
Sealed makes for more pressure built in the box to keep the sub from going through as much excursion as in a ported box. Ported boxes are the best in my opinion. If you get a good design and build it right, it will sound almost as good as a nice sealed box, and have around 3-4db more output. I went from a prefab sealed to a custom ported box tuned at 34hz at around 1.7 ft^3 per sub (12" Alpine Type R's) and not only did I notice a SQ improvement, but also a HUGE increase in SPL. My buddy's meter mounted in the kickpanel measured 8db higher than before, which is a ridiculously large increase. Poly-fil in the box to reduce standing waves is good too.
You also went from a prefab to a custom build. Thats were most of your difference came from
Both have there pros and cons...

ahem.....contact cement.....ahem
Your correct, i dont like to get into that, because Super 77 works wonders and its sprayable...there are a few people i know who use contact cement...
Ok, well, i got some rope caulk around where i thought it was leaking... its not leaking much more, but still a little bit... might take the sub out and do wheaterstrip kind of stuff all the way around to get it to seal.... thats gonna suck lol... but about going to a bandbass box... are there advantages? Would it be good for what im wanting out of my system? Im not too good with knowing what each type of box is for... Also... would it really effect the sound with a little bit of air leaking in a bandbass since there will be plexi there basically? Thanks for all the help!
"Hondas are like tampons, every pussy has one!!!"
Leaking air isn't THAT bad but if you go sealed, it depends. I had a hole about .25" in diameter on one side in a dual chamber box, and it was enough to make a difference.
And the one who said my diff was going from prefab to custom:
I sealed the prefab myself. Just fiberglassed the corners barely for a roudned edge and seal. I had slightly more volume than recommended for my sub (By like .08 cuft) so it should have been louder.
Ported is the way to go though. Ported prefabs<Sealed prefabs.
