1 set - front speakers

where do i plug those in to???

also, taping in to a 12v power switch.. what exactly does FUSE mean. is it simply splicing the orange wire and twisting it together with what else??

You have to wplice into a switched power source by soldering the connection, and heat shrinking, fuse means you put a fuse in it....

not exactly sure what soldering means or heat shrinking??
am new at this.

seems everybody is too good on here to take the time to explain @!#$ to those w/out any experience.

am stuck now because the antenna female part from my new HU wont take the male antenna adapter plug.

first off read the wiring guide that comes with the radio and the wire harness. its really simple match the colors of the two harness together with solder and elect tape/heat shrink. and as far as the antenna welcome to the wounderful world of GM the antenna is not a standard size. it is rather as u c smaller thats why it falls out. when u bought the correct harness for ur cav it should have included tha adpater plug(3in lonf with male on 1 end female on other) this will connect the factory to the aftermarket radio ant. from the looks of it u have that adapter yet doesnt seem to be the correct one tho.

Rich, can I beat your wife too?

If you're not using the RCA outs, don't do anything with them, just leave them.

Re: aftermarket HU question
Friday, May 16, 2008 5:52 PM
ok that makes sense. can i just cut them off since there is 5 of them just hanging there?

I cannot find a source for my +12V.
Also, when I use the RED wire from my HU, where do I connect the RED wire from the harness to?

Re: aftermarket HU question

first question... did you buy a wiring harness, or did you just chop off your factory plug and you're trying to wire that way?

secondly, you could cut those RCA cables off, but then if you want to add amps later on you're @!#$. So leave them.

Third, if you're having this much trouble, go pay someone to do it, honestly. Or at a minimum have someone who knows how to help you. If you're confused with these simple questions and things like what to do with pre-outs, you really shouldnt being trying this on your own. I'm not trying to sound like a dick and I know we all gotta start somewhere.

1. i bought a wiring harness.
2. RCA meaning the extra 5 cables?
3. i have everything done. i do not need sirious, ipod connections or amps. just my mp3 and 4 speakers.
that's why am asking 2 questions really.
  1. do i connect Front L, Front R, Rear L, Rear R and tape off all other wires
  2. in details of where and how to get 12v power

the wiring harnes and your harness for the aftermarket HU should be labeled, match the wires that are labeled the same

YOu need to connect
yellow - power, always on
red - accessory, on with the key
black -ground
white, white/black - front left
gray, gray/black - front right
green, green/black - rear left
purple, purple/black - rear right

the first three (Yellow, red, black) are needed if you want the deck to even turn on, so no, you CAN'T just hook up the speaker wires.

Don't you know anybody in your city who knows how to install stereos and could show you some of these things?

i got all the speaker wires down. i wired up black on black. do i do the same with yel on yel and red on red?
if so, what do i use to wire up to a 12V....

i might buy an add-a-circuit, plug it into my fuse and call it a day.

so many ppl here and yet nobody can help me get the last part done.... FINDING a 12V wire and WHAT wire to wire into that 12V.

Quote:

yes. you match the wires on your radio, to the wires on your harness. Sometimes you'll run into extra wires like illumination for example, if its not on your harness, or if its not on the radio, dont worry about it, just tape it off. Match up the wires you can, tape off the rest.

a lot of people do the add a fuse to the wiper, thats generally the answer your going to get for the switched 12v. another option would be splicing into the accessory wire in the steering column, but IN MY OPINION it seems that you arent highly experienced in electrica, sol i would say go with the add a fuse.

using the wiper fuse sounds like what i'll end up doing. how exactly does this work so i know what to expect.
am pretty much going to get an extension cable and run it from my harness to the add-a-circuit wire?
