in my truck, my system is hooked up to the negative terminal on the battery, but people are saying ur supposed to hook it up to the positive terminal. but my system is working fine?? im confused....
why would you wire it to the negative terminal? it makes no sense and shouldnt work at all.

yeah I'm also confused how the hell anything would even work. If you have power wire running from the negative terminal to the power terminal of the amp, and then have it grounded out, it shouldnt do @!#$. So two things...
1. Why the hell would you not hook it up to positive. Amp kits tell you to, basic online tutorials tell you to, your friends tell you to, I'm lost.
2. Are you sure your power wire isnt hooked up to the positive on your battery
3. Need pics of this.
It has to be hooked up to the positive. Your friends just might be giving you crap saying that its hooked up to negative to see what you say.
If someone wired the WHOLE system wrong, then it is possible that it is drawing power from other source in the car, and using the negative as a ground. (bad idea)
no i know what the negative and positive terminal look like and i didnt hook my system up a pro did....it works off the positive and negative...im just as confused as you guys???? maybe my battery is magic..i was just confused but i knew it was supposed to be hooked to the positive i just never asked questions cuz it sounds good

truth.
car audio noob since 1984.
i understand that it could work right this way, it just amazes me that he is picking up the amperage off of the body to power an amp. must be running something with a lot of grounding potential.

i agree, it just amazes me that it works at all in the fashion that he described.

There must be a power connection somewhere that you're just not seeing.... the car would not work if someone had reversed the power connections - without some serious re-engineering of the vehicle itself. The starter motor wouldn't even turn!!
What kind of truck and what year? I personally have never seen a positive "earth" truck but have seen tractors and i believe the old MGBs setup up in that way- but those were from many many years ago.

Now with northstar V8, IRS, 20's n 22's
I helped change the battery in my boss' Model A Ford last fall, and it had a positive ground IIRC. Now I know who to call for an aftermarket stereo installation.

I'm wondering if the guy who wired it got power from the + side of the battery, and got ground from the - side, in which case.... not a whole lot wrong with that, I've seen people do it to eliminate noise.
I refuse to judge until I see pictures though.
There will always be someone faster than you, but thousands slower and dumber than you.
are u f++kin retared jeezz its impossible for it to work
you obviously know nothing about electricity. it isnt impossible for it to work, just insanely improbable and impractical
