Right now I have a setup with a JBL PX300.4 amplifier (123.5 Watts RMS x4 channels @ 4 Ohms, 169 W RMS x 4 channels @ 2 ohms)
On that I have JBL 607C components in the front, and JBL GTO927 in the back.
The GTO927 are 2 Ohm speakers and rated at 100W RMS.
I have a set of Audiobahn AS96V (4 ohms) just lying around and was wondering, if I connect them in series with the GTO927 would I notice any difference in audio quality?
The 2 back channels would have a load of 6ohms and the speakers would get less power - but I could turn the amp up a little bit, because right now it is not running at RMS.
I've seen amps do funny things with different impedences in front and back.
By funny do you mean screwy stuff that could dammage your equipment? Ie. Is it safe to test it out, or do I risk damaging my amp/speakers?
the speakers will be fine, but depending how the amp is designed it might not like different loads. contact the company and they will let you know if it will work.
you also need to read up a little on RMS.

Well if my Amp was running at RMS it would blow my speakers. I have the gain basically at 0. I know that doesn't necessairly mean its not running at RMS, but there is room for increasing the gain to compensate for the extra load.
with good quality speakers and depending on crossover settings etc. you can feed speakers more then their rms. ive speakers fed with more then their max rated power without issues in the right circumstances. where your gain is at will be dependant on how many volts your rca is supplying the amp. if its a newer headunit with a large voltage out you may not even need your gain set to 1/4 way to reach maximum power. my gains are set at the halfway point and im only using a 2 volt output. some of the newer headunits with 4 and 5 volts out will reach max power at allot lower gain setting then that.

Well I'm not sure on the output. My headunit is a few years old. I've had it since my first car. Its a @!#$ty little Sony Xplod MP3-CD player, but it does the trick. Either way, what I'm saying is, the gain is super low, and that is after adjusting the gain accordingly.
What I'm really getting at, is that I enjoy listening to my music loud (also with good clarity). Which is why I want to add in a few more speakers 2 6" in the front w/ 2 tweeters, and 2 6x9 in the back can only go loud enough if I push them hard, and that kills the clarity a bit. So what I want is to add in a few more speakers (not cheapies) so that I don't have to push any of the speakers as hard. I also have a nother 2 channel audiobahn amp just sitting in my room.
I just cant figure out where I can put 2 more speakers in the front stage. Perhaps, somebody knows someone on the j-body site that could fiberglass kick panels for me or something?
if you want to get louder i'd suggest looking into a bigger componet set. maybe a 3-way componet set that can handle more power. this way you can still keep the speaker count low. but get more power. this will give you a better chance at having a realistic soundstage and have it not only play loud but clear and with a good image. kicks would be a good start though with shipping and such it be best to learn to make some yoruself, its not to hard to do really.

what kind of component set do you recommend? Its hard for me to go to a store and listen to them because I live pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I originally purchased the JBL607c because JBL is known for their great acoustics, but as mentioned my amp can handle something more powerful. Althought I can't just judge stuff by specs either, because I know companies like Audiobahn highly over rate their products.
I purchased some lanzar opti 5.1's for the kicks. They're taking 125 watts rms no problems. I'm going to add another set of 6.1's up front, and they'll take 225 watts rms no problem.
Ya but how are lanzar woofers compared to JBL, like clarity loudness, bass, treble?
I was under the impression that Lanzar was a lower end speaker.
I am impressed with the newer optidrive line. Back in the day Optidrive used to be the cats meow. The company who owns Pyramid/Legacy bought them out and it turned to junk. Within the past few years Lanzar has been putting out quality gear again.
I'm a little worried about the whole "paper cone" thing though....I would have to listen to it to be convinced.
Anyone else think of any other 6.5" component systems?
Sndsgood, what kind of speakers are you running in your j-body? You seem to be the go to person for this....
