Hiding wires in engine bay, interior?
Wednesday, June 16, 2010 7:30 PM
I have some aftermarket side mirrors with L.E.D.'s on them and some L.E.D. underglow. The wires coming from the side mirror come through the inside to the engine bay. I would like to hide these wires a little better if I could. The underglow wires are black and are basically like a car audio system, so I am not worried too much about them. I have some tubing that I could cover that with. Anyways, the side mirror light have 2 small wires coming from each of them. It goes through a little hole in the front to the engine. Is there anyway, to hide these wires behind the door panel and then feed them to the engine? Some people say you can through the rubber suspension near the bottom, but I haven't found a hole for that. Can someone show me with photos preferbly how I can hide these wires?

run them thru the doors rubber accordian boot then under the dash and thru the huge gray gromment on the firewall below the steeringwheel area. once in the engine bay you could just open up some of the stock black loom on the engines harness and run them thru there till you get to where you need to go.

that was my plan, but i don't know how to get them from the mirror back, to the rubber accordian thing. i tried taking off the door panels but there is no hole accessible that is big enough to go to that boot, and where does it come out on the other side from the boot. this is where i need pics and precise details. thank you!

to anyone who wants to know how to do this...listen up. you need to take the rubber grommet out of the socket on both ends. this makes it much easier for you to get the wire through. go through the inside of your door where the hood release latch is and right behind it is the hole for the grommet. put the wire through that hole, through the grommet and get it from the other side of the grommet. this takes some time but eventually you will get it. once it is through the other end, pull it a little so you have some extra wire and pass it through the hole in the door. now there are 4 screws for the speaker, take them off and take the speaker out. mount the speaker someplace upwards near the side mirror because it is a magnet. now, you there is a bolt on the bottom right where the speaker was and one similar about the middle of the door straight up from it. this releases some sort of plastic support thing which needs those 2 unbolted so you can get the wire through the hole. once you release those bolts, pull the thing aside, (don't break it off, just snug it to the side and reach in with your hand to get the wire. once you done this, pull the wire up through one smaller hole on the top and put it right underneath the side mirror and now your wires are completely hidden! it looks so much nicer without those wires being there. just take your time and eventually you will get it and you will be happy with the results. patience is a virtue when working on your car, trust me. good luck if you have any questions send me a pm.

i guess your don't have to unbolt the window guide, but the thing got in my way when I tried to reach for it, it made it a lot easier. i could upload a new post with pictures and everything if it got stickied. what makes a post being sticky worthy? i always wanted one of my posts to be a sticky but never got to it.

and yes, i finally got some pigtail fuses that have a wire attached. i am going to connect all three wires for the constant, switched, and ground, and i'm going to run it to the one wire so it will look so much cleaner than my crappy video. once all this is done i will upload some cool pictures to show how i hid all the wires and cleaned them up. you guys will be shocked. now all i gotta do is figure out why my right side mirror won't light up the led anymore. could have been a bad ground is what i am hoping. not under warranty anymore.
