today at work someone drop a sheet printed from gmperformanceparts.com.

but reading it says designed for 2000-2002 GM vehicles equipped with the 2.4L twin cam engine (engine code RPO LD9)

now i have a 1996 and its a LD9 right. so would this work for me or not?

Yes and no. Pre 99 (I think) starters are bigger, so that has to be swapped. It will bolt in (with the starter swapped, and getting rid of EGR), but the GM reflash for the programing will not work on a pre 00 ECU. If you do some reading on here you will find lots of info on this topic.

ok thanks, and so since reflashing is out of the question the way around that is safc2 and wideband etc etc.

so a 2000 starter will bolt on the 1996.

Yeah you do not want a SAFC on our cars. FMU and Hptuners will do what you need.

Not sure if it'd work for 1996->2000 but in the Aleros and Grand Ams, 1999 ECUs can be swapped directly for 2000 ECUs, and all you'd have to do is swap to the smaller starter, block off your EGR, and install the high impedance injectors. You can use high impedance injectors even on a low-impedance driver, but not the other way around. If you had a 2000 ECU functional it'd make everything work perfect.

yes, i went and bought a brand new 2000 up starter for my 98 and it bolted right up same as the larger one. also, i bought my EGR block off plate from GM, its around $12.00. you cannot re-use the stock bolts though, make sure you order the correct bolts from GM that are needed-they will be right in the same column as the block off plate to order, as well as the gasket needed.

I have yet to see this block off plate people speak of. I tell people to get a 99+ exhaust manifolod gasket (it will block the flow). My 01 Z24 does not have a block off plate.

Hp tuners dont work on 96. so you are going to have to deal with a EGR code.

They are talking about a blockoff plate for the intake, not the exhaust

I realize that. If you block off the exhaust side no need to block off the intake side.

Thanks for the pictures. I now can say I have seen one, looks like that same one used on the 2200's. Does anyone know if it is?

For the Exhaust side you can run a 2000 plus non EGR exhaust gasket i believe
