I'm looking for a gasket I need on my turbo. It appears to be leaking oil now.
Started out I needed to put new studs on the turbo, but as I was checking out the turbo, it had and oil leak so I took the entire turbo off the motor.
The part I am asking about is the triangular shaped piece that the boost regulator tube goes into ( i think )
Nearest Saab dealership is about 45 miles from here so I'm in for a trip when I can get the part.
Here are the pictures to explain it better:
and heres the studs that got raped, we are going to extract them and just use bolts next for the DP:
Saab makes a bov repair kit. I've replaced a couple, it comes with the triangular gasket, 3 torx bolts, a spring, diaphram cup and diaphram. Make sure you are carful when you take it apart, or else you won't know how it goes back together. (it's spring loaded)
Or you can get a block off plate for it and run an external bov.
How difficult of an install would it be, given I have the knowledge to work on that motor with the turbo and change typical parts.
How much is the kit? Can I get the kit from a Saab Dealer?
Well I've been looking into BOV's now that it is an option.
Can I get the block off plate from the Saab dealer?
And does a BOV just weld in near the intake on the intercooling piping? then just run a hose from that nipple blocked off with the vacuum cap?
Level zero has blockoff plates that will work since the srt4 neon uses a td04 as well
After looking at that block off plate, i might go that route.
All i need to do is block it off, and nothing else?
Then just run a BOV from the intake piping with a vacuum line back to the turbo and it is all set??

Yup.
I would block it off, get the plate and gasket (or rtv sealant)
Alright thanks for all the help so far.
It looks like I might be going with a 1g DSM BOV. I might chime in once I get everything on to let you know how it went, or if I run into anymore issues
Alright, just ordered the block off plate, and am waiting on a response for a bov.
I need help with the lines running to the turbo/bov though.
I have a manual boost controller, 1 line ran to the wastegate, and 1 runs into a t fitting. On the tfitting one of the lines runs into the intake mani.
My question is, the line from the intake mani(labeled IM) does that need to be run to the new bov, being it was on the old bov on the turbo? then run the rest of the lines to the original location? I noticed on the turbo that there is a nipple with a vacuum cap on it, and was wondering if i needed to get a t fitting from the bov back to that nipple on the turbo...
Sorry but I am just very confused.
Here are pictures to better explain.. Labels: IM (intake mani),Saab BOV, and WG (Wastegate)
And here is the nipple on the turbo I was talking about: (New BOV), and BO Plate (block off plate):
any help where to run the lines would be great.
I'm getting ready to install the same turbo and the way I was going to do it was to run the wastegate to the nipple on the turbo, then run the bov line to one of the nipples on the intake manifold. and use the second nipple on the intake for the fpr and boost gauge.
Well I just got the turbo back on, didn't put the block off plate on or bov.
Started it up, and it the turbo began to smoke some, it never had any problem the night i took it off, how could this happen when it wasn't giving me any prior problems. wtf...?
should i start it and let it idle down for a while even though it continues to smoke??!
I'm pretty sure the turbo needs a rebuild now...
from reading other forums it sure as hell sounds like it..
It isn't creating any boost, just spooling and it sounds muffled. And the smoke smells a little like oil, but it is white.
The charge pipes are covered in oil on the insides also...
so I am going to save up for a rebuild and hopefully find someone local that does turbo rebuilds...
here is the kit I plan to order.:
Turbo
I went through the same exact thing with my Saab kit but I just found another Saab turbo at the junk yard instead of rebuilding it.These are the joys of owning a turbo car. After all the trouble It gave me I ended up supercharging instead,no major problems yet.
I don't know if that rebuild kit will work. It doesn't say it works on the sports sedan TDO4. The TDO4 is externally different (between ecopower motors and the ecotec motor) but I don't know if the bearing and internal section is the same.

Actually. the car is fine now.
I think oil got built up in the section it was smoking, from me moving the turbo in every which direction.
It smoked for a good 10 minutes, but works fine now and works great.
I am still going to get the bov, once the plate comes and when I get some money...
Any help with running the lines would be nice still.
Just hook the hose you had on the stock bov to the new one. Keep the nipple capped off on the compressor housing.
Good call, I feel so dumb for not thinking of that now.....
Thanks! haha
